TITLE: PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT MANAGER (COMMUNITY RECREATION)

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS: Under supervision, develops and implements a comprehensive training and staff development program for the Park District. Performs related duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience :
A Bachelor’s degree in human resources, organizational development, or a related field, plus five years management and training experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A master’s degree in human resources, organizational development, parks and natural resources management, recreation and leisure studies or related field is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the structure of government and nonprofit agencies.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and in teams.
  • Project management skills. Extensive knowledge of training, design, and practices.
  • Ability to interact with staff at all levels of an organization.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with community groups and city agencies.
    PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: This job requires the employee to frequently sit and talk. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is regularly required to stand and talk. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work is generally performed primarily in an office setting, in a smoke-free environment, with controlled temperature and fluorescent lighting. Travel to citywide Park District facilities, events, and meetings may be required.
Responsibilities
  • Develops and establishes staff training programs aligned to a healing-centered framework for all aspects of park operations and programming, and for all levels of year-round and seasonal staff.
  • Designs curricula and materials that incorporate healing-centered strategies and tactics when implementing programs.
  • Conducts training and leads year-round opportunities for staff to engage in peer-to-peer reflection and learning in support of continuous growth.
  • Oversees the development of timetables and evaluation frameworks to assess the effectiveness of training and curricula.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to departments and regions.
  • Works collaboratively with regions and park staff on course development, staffing and events.
  • May supervise staff.
