Job Description Responsible for the planning, design, assessment, and delivery of bridge and civil structures projects across Western Australia, applying sound engineering judgement and Australian Standards (including AS 5100) to ensure safe, durable, and constructible outcomes. The role involves structural analysis and design of concrete and steel bridges, foundations, bearings, and associated components; preparation and review of technical documentation; coordination with multidisciplinary teams; and support during construction through design clarifications and site inspections. The engineer liaises with clients and authorities such as Main Roads WA, contributes to project delivery, mentors junior staff, and ensures compliance with quality, safety, and risk management requirements. Key Responsibilities Assist in the delivery of bridge and structural designs in accordance with AS 5100, Austroads, and Main Roads WA (MRWA) standards. Prepare engineering deliverables, including: Design calculations and reports Technical documentation Construction drawings and specifications Contribute to design development across concept, preliminary, and detailed design stages. Support coordination with multidisciplinary teams, including: Geotechnical, drainage, road design, and construction disciplines Participate in design reviews, constructability discussions, and safety-in-design processes. Work under the guidance of senior engineers and project managers to meet project objectives. Assist with client and stakeholder interactions as required. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering. Typically 3–7 years’ experience in bridge or heavy civil structural design. Experience working within an engineering consultancy environment. Familiarity with MRWA standards and approval processes (desirable). Working knowledge of structural analysis and design software (e.g. SpaceGass, Strand7, LUSAS, or Midas). Progressing toward Chartered (CPEng) status with Engineers Australia.
