Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Comfort Systems Northwest is looking for a dynamic and ethusiastic Principal Engineer to lead its team of professionals in the engineering department. This person would be responsible for leading design of company design build projects, supervising the design for the life of the design process and stamping the final permit issue set of construction documents. This position will hold the title of Principal Engineer with the State of Washington related to our design build business.

Responsibilities

Participate in the preparation of in-house Engineering Proposals as requested by the Engineering Department Manager and VP of Construction related to design build work that can be accurately communicated to the Client.
Interact with the other divisions of our company and provide support they may require or request. This will almost always be in the form of technical or code support for the Sales Groups, Project Managers, CSNW Management, Construction Superintendents and Construction Foreman.
Oversee the mechanical and plumbing design of projects and the production of construction documents as scheduled by the Engineering Department Manager.
Directly oversee the engineering work provided by engineering staff on engineering projects. Oversight is not to be confused with actual production. While the Principal will often be directly involved with production, engineering staff will assist in production of the construction documents and supporting calculations. It is the responsibility of the Principal Engineer to continually be aware of, and directing, the technical aspects of the engineering design.
Participate in the QC process with the Engineering Department Manager to assure that all engineering documents are at a standard CSNW level of care prior to being released.
Assist the Engineering Department Manager with the continuous improvement process related to both our deliverables and the way we perform our work.
Be a subject matter expert with respect to the codes we use in our daily work and provide support to the company with respect to the code requirements. These codes include: International Mechanical Code (IMC), Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC), International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC), Washington State Energy Code(WSEC), and the Facilities Guidelines Institute for the Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities (FGI).
Always maintain professional and effective communication with junior engineers on staff and support the Engineering Department Manager in mentoring them throughout their professional development
Must have WA State PE License.
Be proficient in using load analysis software, particularly Carrier HAPS.
Be proficient in 2D AutoCAD as a design tool.
Be proficient in Microsoft Suite tools, in particular, Word, Excel and Teams.
Push the envelope of leveraging technology. Understand the development, acceptance and use of 3D Modeling (AutoCAD Revit) as a design tool, understand the backbone of the technology and assist in providing 3D design, or a hybrid of 3D and 2D design, in our engineering documents. This is not to be confused with being an actual Revit operator, although such an option may exist. The goal for the Principal Engineer is support 3D modeling, not actually perform it.
Be a positive advocate for the group and the company
