Location: Las Cruces, NM or Ruidoso, NM
Company: King Industries
About King Industries:
King Industries is a leading disaster recovery and engineering firm specializing in civil and environmental infrastructure solutions. Based in scenic Ruidoso, New Mexico, our team works on a wide range of projects including water systems, transportation infrastructure, flood mitigation, and environmental restoration. We are committed to delivering sustainable, resilient, and technically sound solutions that benefit both the environment and the communities we serve.
We are seeking a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) with a background in civil or environmental engineering to join our growing team.
Position Summary:
The Professional Engineer (PE) will lead and support a variety of civil and environmental engineering projects with a focus on water infrastructure, stormwater systems, erosion control, flood mitigation, and site development. The role involves both design and project management responsibilities, working closely with clients, public agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver effective and compliant engineering solutions.
Although the primary focus of this role is general civil and water resource engineering, occasional work on acequia-related systems may be included as part of broader water infrastructure initiatives.
Responsibilities:
· Lead the design and management of civil engineering projects such as stormwater systems, drainage, erosion control, grading, roadways, and site improvements.
· Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and develop engineering solutions for flood prevention and water resource challenges.
· Prepare and review technical reports, engineering calculations, project specifications, and design plans.
· Oversee permitting processes and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
· Collaborate with stakeholders, agencies, and consultants to coordinate project scope, schedule, and budget.
· Perform site assessments, prepare feasibility studies, and develop design recommendations.
· Occasionally support traditional water infrastructure projects, including acequia systems, as needed.
· Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a collaborative team environment.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
· Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in New Mexico or ability to obtain within 6 months.
· 5+ years of experience in civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis on water systems and infrastructure projects.
· Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and hydrologic modeling tools (e.g., HEC-HMS, SWMM).
· Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and permitting for infrastructure projects.
· Strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
· Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Experience in flood control, stormwater management, grading and drainage design.
· Knowledge of New Mexico’s water systems and environmental policies.
· Familiarity with acequia systems is a plus but not a core requirement.
· LEED, CFM, or similar certifications are a plus.
Benefits:
· Competitive salary based on experience.
· Comprehensive health and dental insurance.
· Paid time off and holiday benefits.
· 401(k) retirement plan with company match.
· Professional development and licensing support.
· Relocation assistance for qualified candidates.
