POSITION TITLE: PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COORDINATOR

Pay Grade: A-2 Period of Employment: 12 months
Description Approved/ Revised: 08/2025 FLSA Status: Exempt
Supervised by and/or Reports to: Director of Professional Learning

REQUISITE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of effective training design concepts with effective personal presentation style and delivery.
  • Strong leadership qualities and personal characteristics necessary to work effectively with all stakeholders.
  • Ability to set goals and a vision for their work then implement a plan of action for accomplishing goals.
  • Demonstrates effective and efficient problem-solving skills.
  • Must possess strong social, organizational, human relations and communication skills (written and oral).
  • Ability to establish and maintain successful working relationships with peers, teachers, administrators, and other school system employees that cultivates continual growth.
  • Strong written, interpersonal, collaborative, speaking and facilitation skills
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities and meet established deadlines through a detail-oriented approach to work.

REQUISITE EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in education.
  • Master’s degree in Education or related field required.
  • Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License. An endorsement in Administration and Supervision PreK-12 preferred.
  • Leadership experience at the school and/or district-level required.
  • Experience with supervision and evaluation process preferred.
  • Experience with managing large-scale projects.
  • Experience with facilitating adult learning.
  • Experience in designing and delivering effective professional development activities at the district and school levels that are aligned to the needs of the participants.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Significant climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.

Responsibilities

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position provides leadership in the development, facilitation, implementation, and monitoring of various initiatives identified in the MCPS Strategic Plan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assists in the development and implementation of the MCPS Professional Development (PD) Plan that aligns with the MCPS Strategic Plan and represents school, staff, and student needs.
  • Recommends, develops, oversees, and delivers effective, needs-based professional learning for instructional leaders.
  • Ensures that all professional learning meets the criteria set by the school division and the standards set for professional learning.
  • Supports in the planning, development, and execution of all professional learning events.
  • Works collaboratively with department and school leaders to develop and maintain a system for streamlined professional learning opportunities, including the effective implementation and monitoring of learning.
  • Creates and organizes support materials that enhance the implementation of learning for staff and monitoring for instructional leaders.
  • Build staff capacity to facilitate professional learning communities to improve and sustain student achievement.
  • In collaboration with the Director of Professional Learning, supervises and evaluates members of the professional learning team.
  • Researches and implements innovative practices to meet current professional learning needs for the division.
  • Analyzes the impact of professional learning offered via surveys, feedback, and student achievement.
  • Builds staff capacity to become effective communicators, problem solvers, and leaders.
  • Executes services under the direction of the Director of Professional Learning.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
