This role is aimed at strengthening applied research in Mexico in the following areas: analysis of affordable housing models; the impact of land-use regulation on housing costs; estimation of infrastructure costs associated with different urban form configurations; the impact of transportation on land values; and the city’s fiscal balance associated with urban growth. The ideal candidate holds a PhD in Economics, with a doctoral dissertation focused on one or more of the areas described above, and demonstrates strong quantitative training. The Professor-Fellow will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of urban planners at the CFC, developing rigorous research that combines advanced empirical methods with theoretical frameworks from urban economics. Ideal candidates will have experience or familiarity with general equilibrium models, spatial analysis, and econometric modeling. The selected candidate will also collaborate on applied research within the CFC’s impact-driven projects in Mexican cities. Responsibilities Publish original research in high-impact, indexed journals (Scopus/SSCI) in the field of urban economics (e.g., Journal of Urban Economics, Regional Science and Urban Economics, Real Estate Economics, Journal of Real Estate Finance and Economics, Journal of the American Planning Association). Attract and manage competitive research funding from national and international sources. Actively participate in the CFC’s strategic projects, particularly those related to urban regulation, city expansion and its costs, and housing affordability in the Mexican context. Develop new research lines and consolidate a research group in urban economics, with an emphasis on housing markets, urban expansion costs, and advanced quantitative models. Conduct applied research that connects theoretical models, empirical evidence, and urban policy recommendations, while building long-term relationships with the CFC’s strategic partners. Key Challenges Publish at least one article per year in a Q1 Scopus-indexed journal in the field of urban economics. Submit research funding proposals totaling at least MXN $1.5 million per year to national and international funding calls. Secure at least MXN $500,000 per year in competitive research funding. Build and sustain a research team—including postdoctoral researchers and research assistants—funded with external resources within a maximum period of five years. Participate in and lead applied research work in at least three Mexican cities, in coordination with CFC teams, particularly on issues related to urban regulation, expansion, and housing. Candidate Profile PhD in Economics with a dissertation related to the urban economics topics described above.
