THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking to appoint a Professor of Accounting, ideally with research and teaching experience in one or more of the following accounting disciplines: audit and assurance; information systems; digital technologies, performance measurement or management control systems.
The Department of Accounting is one of the largest academic departments of its kind and a leader in the advancement of accounting research, practice and education. The Department at Monash University is currently ranked 10th globally by the Brigham Young University Accounting Research Rankings for research over the last six years. In addition to publishing in outstanding international outlets, our faculty are recognised for the impact of their work on industry. As part of a large business school our faculty have access to a state of the art behavioural research lab and opportunities to collaborate on interdisciplinary research to address global challenges. The successful candidate will be an outstanding academic leader who will work with senior colleagues in the Department of Accounting to drive excellence in research, teaching, and higher degree research (HDR) supervision. They will maintain an internationally recognised research profile aligned with the Faculty’s strategic priorities, supported by a strong publication record and a commitment to mentoring early career academics and research students. They will lead the pursuit of competitive research funding and foster productive collaborations across disciplines. In teaching, the successful candidate will contribute to curriculum innovation and ensure the delivery of high-quality education, while also participating actively in academic governance and assessment. A commitment to meeting national and international accreditation standards is essential, along with strategic leadership in the HDR program to attract and guide exceptional research students.
In addition, the successful candidate will provide strategic and administrative leadership within the Department by contributing to the development of policies and institutional strategies. The role involves cultivating and expanding partnerships across the University, with the broader community, and with national and international external agencies to enhance academic collaboration and professional engagement. A key focus is on strengthening industry links and diversifying funding opportunities through impactful partnerships. As a senior figure within the Department, the appointee will be expected to take future leadership appointments such as Head or Deputy Head of Department, contributing to the Business School’s ongoing development and direction.
