Full time continuing Shape the future direction of teacher education at one of Australia’s leading universities Offering a competitive remuneration package including 17% superannuation About the opportunity The School of Education and Social Work at the University of Sydney invites applications for a Professor of Teacher Education to provide outstanding academic leadership in teaching, research and service, and to contribute strategically to the continued development and national standing of teacher education within the School and the University. This is a continuing academic appointment at Level E (Professor). The successful candidate will join a collegial, research-active environment and play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of teacher education at one of Australia’s leading universities. Candidates with strong leadership experience and demonstrated leadership capability may also be considered for appointment at Level D (Associate Professor). About the role The Professor of Teacher Education will make a major contribution to the design, delivery and leadership of undergraduate and postgraduate teacher education programs, ensuring academic quality, curriculum innovation, and alignment with professional and accreditation requirements. The role includes leadership in teaching practice and professional experience, and the development of strong partnerships with schools, education systems and authorities, supporting the School’s deep engagement with the education sector. The appointee will also be expected to lead and sustain a high-quality, internationally recognised research program in teacher education or a closely related field. As part of this appointment, there is an expectation that the successful candidate will undertake a significant externally facing leadership role associated with the AfGT, a national education consortium for which the University of Sydney is the host institution, for an initial period of approximately three years. This responsibility reflects the continuation of an established role within the School and forms part of the appointee’s service and governance contributions. About you (skills, capabilities and experience) You will bring: A PhD or equivalent doctoral qualification in Education or a closely related discipline An established and sustained record of high-quality research in teacher education or an aligned field, commensurate with appointment at Level D or Level E Demonstrated capacity to provide academic leadership, including program leadership, research leadership, senior service roles, or equivalent experience within a university, school system or education organisation A strong record of teaching and curriculum leadership in teacher education at undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels Evidence of successful supervision and mentoring of higher degree research candidates and/or early- to mid-career academics Demonstrated ability to contribute to academic governance, service and external engagement, including collaboration with professional, government or sector partners Excellent interpersonal, communication and collaborative skills, with the ability to work effectively across disciplines and institutional boundaries Key benefits a University contribution of 17% of your base salary to your superannuation fund tax-efficient salary packaging options for cars, laptops, and additional contributions to your superannuation fund generous relocation allowance if moving from interstate or overseas access to fitness passport, as well as discounted rates on university sports and fitness centers gain the recognition of working in a leading University. Term and remuneration The successful candidate will be offered a continuing position on a full-time basis.
