NMR-based metabolomics
Our profile
TU Dortmund University comprises 17 departments in the natural and engineering
sciences as well as the humanities and social sciences and is a dynamic university
with a strong profile in research, teaching, promotion of young scientists and transfer.
The Department of Physics combines excellent research in the focus areas of particle
physics, condensed matter physics, and medical physics with a modern and future-
oriented teaching concept. It maintains national and international networks in both
research and teaching and is successful in attracting third-party funding.
ISAS is a research institute of the Leibniz Association based in Dortmund. The
institute is dedicated to developing efficient analytical methods for health research
and implementing them in collaboration with its partners. Through its innovations,
ISAS contributes to improving the prevention, early diagnosis, and therapy of
diseases such as cardiovascular diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancer. In
order to achieve the institute’s aim of advancing personalized therapy, ISAS combines
knowledge from physics, medicine, biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and
informatics.
Profile of the professorship
You represent the experimental research field of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR)
with a focus on the investigation of metabolites in a biomedical context and further
develop this field with international visibility. It would be desirable to establish links
between physics, medical physics, life sciences, and medicine. A possible focus of
your research can be the development of innovative NMR methods for the
investigation of the metabolism of living systems on the scale of cells (2D / 3D
culture), organoids, up to biopsies for application in medicine or biomedicine. In doing
so, you participate in research networks and cooperations within and outside TU
Dortmund University as well as ISAS and are committed to promoting early career
researchers. Upon assuming the professorship at TU Dortmund University, you will be
granted leave of absence in accordance with the “Jülicher Modell” to lead a research
group at ISAS. At the same time, you participate appropriately in the teaching
activities of the department in the area of medical physics and physics. During the
leave of absence, the teaching load comprises two weekly hours per semester.
Your qualifications
You will have obtained a doctorate with above-average success and have acquired a
post-doctoral lecture qualification (Habilitation) or an equivalent qualification. You
will have demonstrated your research excellence in the field covered by the
professorship through continuous publications in recognized peer-reviewed venues
and have been successful in obtaining competitively awarded third-party funding.
Additionally, you will have the potential for teaching excellence. Social and leadership
skills and the willingness to participate in academic self-administration will
complete your profile. Moreover, the recruitment requirements in Sections 36 and 37
of the North Rhine-Westphalia Higher Education Act (Gesetz über die Hochschulen
des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen, HG) apply.

We offer an excellent academic environment and attractive
cooperation opportunities with renowned international, national, and
regional partners. The metropolitan Ruhr Area with the University
Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) guarantees short distances to a diversity of
partners from science and industry. With our Dual Career Service, we
support your partner in finding professional opportunities in the
region, if desired. We will be happy to provide information about
