REQUIREMENTS OF THE JOB

  • Completion of Ontario Secondary School Diploma
  • Medical Terminology (tested with a pass mark of 75% or greater)
  • Medical Office Assistant Course or related certifications or diplomas
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Word, Excel
  • Good understanding of Emergency Response Codes
  • Ability to multi task and work under pressure
  • Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to deal with patients and their families
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail in the ability to read and understand instructions, memos, etc.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the position which offer requires long period’s of sitting.
  • Typing speed of 45 w.p.m.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organization skills and strong team orientation
  • Demonstrated regular, punctual attendance
  • Demonstrated commitment to patient safety
  • Be able to work within close proximity to those receiving cytotoxic medications
  • Functional level in both official languages (oral and written in English; oral in French – and testing completed)
Responsibilities

The overall function of the Program Clerk is to assist our patients, caregivers and community to manage clinical conditions and transitions, maximise the patient’s self-care abilities, as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care.
The Program Clerk answers and places telephone calls, relays messages and directs patients’ relatives and visitors as well as embody a culture of caregiver inclusion in the patient’s plan of care; schedules patients treatments into EHR schedule, completes diagnostic requisitions, receives physician orders, arranges for triage, and if required, contacting hospitalist to sign off on orders, orders supplies for the Unit. Other duties as assigned.
