The Program Coordinator, Applied Politics, provides essential administrative and operational support to the Department Head, faculty, and students within the Applied Politics department. This role is responsible for coordinating class schedules, managing instructor contracts, and organizing student work experiences. Acting as a liaison across internal departments, including Operations, SALT (Strategic Academic Learning Team), Office of the Registrar, and Marketing, the Program Coordinator ensures the department functions efficiently and students receive a cohesive and informed experience.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education: A diploma or certificate in office administration or a related field is required. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Experience:
  • Experience in a coordination, administrative, or student support role, preferably in a post-secondary environment.
  • Familiarity with student services and academic operations is an asset.
  • Knowledge of politics, current events, or public affairs is considered an asset.

SKILLS:

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and adapt to shifting deadlines and responsibilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Interpersonal and relationship-building skills across a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and SharePoint.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Culturally competent and able to work with diverse student populations.
  • Problem-solving, initiative, and proactive follow-through.
Responsibilities
  • Provide day-to-day administrative and operational support to the Department Head of Applied Politics.
  • Coordinate class schedules, room bookings, and course logistics in collaboration with faculty and internal departments.
  • Manage instructor contracts, onboarding, and documentation.
  • Organize and oversee student work experience placements, including liaising with external partners and tracking participation.
  • Communicate regularly with students, faculty, and departments to support timely updates and information flow.
  • Maintain departmental records, including course materials, instructor files, and placement logs.
  • Plan and coordinate departmental events, guest speaker panels, and special sessions.
  • Stay informed on political trends, educational regulations, and post-secondary best practices to inform department strategies.
  • Assist in preparing reports and documentation for internal planning and external reporting.
  • Provide support for trade shows, career fairs, and recruitment events across Canada to promote the Applied Politics program, as needed.
