COORDINATE AND MONITOR PROGRAM ACTIVITIES FOR THE YAWAL MUGADJINA CULTURAL MENTORING PROGRAM (YAWAL MUGADJINA)

ABOUT THE BUSINESS UNIT:

Corrections Victoria operates Victoria’s adult prison system, seeking to provide safe and secure containment for people in custody and an environment and programs and services that support rehabilitation. Corrections Victoria runs 11 public prisons, one transition centre, and oversees privately operated prisons. Corrections Victoria provides best practice interventions that aim to reduce the risk of reoffending, including case management informed by sound risk assessment, offence specific and offence related programs, and transition and reintegration supports.
Workforce and Aboriginal Outcomes leads the design, development, implementation and monitoring of Corrections Victoria policies, programs and services aimed at reducing the over-representation of Aboriginal people within the Victorian correctional system and manage initiatives related to the Safer prisons, Safer People, Safer Communities reform agenda. The division is made up of three teams Cultural Review and Workforce Strategy, Naalamba Ganbu and Nerrlinggu Yilam and Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • No relevant tertiary qualification is required - experience in dealing with the complex needs of Aboriginal people and community in complex environments and other relevant experience is highly desired.
Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE:

This role sits within the Aboriginal Operational Strategic Supports which is responsible for policy, contracts and procurement, governance and secretariat functions and planning and reporting for Aboriginal programs and services.
You will be the main point of contact supporting and liaising with Elders and Respected persons involved in the program. You will also develop strong working relationships with prison locations, working with Aboriginal Wellbeing Officers and other prison staff to ensure the program runs smoothly at each prison location. As part of this role you will monitor and report on the programs progress, developing status updates and reports on an as needs basis and provide business support and administrative functions for the program. At times you may also provide supports to other programs across the suite of Aboriginal programs in the correctional system.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Coordinating the delivery of the Yawal Mugadjina Cultural Mentoring Program across the Victorian Prison system.
  • Liaising with Elders and Respected Persons and prison locations to schedule Yawal Mugadjina prison visits each month.
  • Leading the coordination of quarterly training activities for Elders and Respected Persons.
  • Travel will be required across multiple prison locations statewide.
