PROGRAM COORDINATOR FOR THE SCREENING, OUTREACH, ASSESSMENT, & RESILIENCE (SOAR) PROGRAM

The University of Southern Mississippi is currently accepting applications for the position of Program Coordinator for the Screening, Outreach, Assessment, & Resilience (SOAR) Program.

JOB SUMMARY

The Program Coordinator will work in the USM Center for Behavioral Health coordinating the Screening, Outreach, Assessment, & Resilience (SOAR) Program. The SOAR Program is a new addition of specialty services in the CBH which is targeted to identify and treat Mississippians at risk for developing psychosis or experiencing early psychosis. The Program Coordinator will be directly responsible for day-to-day operation and management of the SOAR program. For candidates with professional licensure, there may be opportunities to provide clinical services to SOAR program clients. The Program Coordinator is a grant-funded position through the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA; award number H79SM089799).

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Fluent in English, written and spoken. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in a field relevant to health administration, public health, or mental health (including but not limited to psychology, counseling, social work, etc.). Related education and experience may be substituted on an equal basis.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Strong critical thinking, research, and analytical skills as well as knowledge of evidence-based decision making;
  • Ability to work both independently and in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary team structure;
  • Ability to maintain strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and external partners, as well as work closely with a team;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as an overall ability to be clear and concise in all communications;
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time;
  • Ability to operate both basic and intermediate computer systems, including Internet, Teams, email, databases, word processing software (Microsoft Office Suite), and electronic medical records;
  • Ability to analyze and produce documents such as procedural and training manuals;
  • Familiarity with healthcare settings and HIPAA privacy and confidentiality requirements.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience with leadership or program management skills or roles.
Exposure to working with persons with psychosis or schizophrenia-spectrum disorders or individuals in healthcare settings in the Deep South.
Prior experience working with inter-disciplinary teams in a healthcare setting.
Prior experience working with medical coding and billing.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinates the onboarding and training of new staff and graduate assistants in the daily operations of the SOAR program, as well as supports ongoing training and professional development of program staff.
  • Works closely with the Project Director, CBH Director, and program staff to implement and refine infrastructure for the SOAR Program, including but not limited to maintenance of waitlist(s), formalizing relationships with other agencies through meetings and development of memoranda of understanding/agreement, supporting staff needs and problem-solving, and assisting in leading weekly team meetings.
  • Leads the management of client waitlists and program enrollment, including regular monitoring of waitlists, coordinating program referrals and consultations, auditing client files, and overseeing that SOAR procedures for screening, referral, and enrollment are utilized.
  • Tracks and reports data on program performance based on grant metrics as determined by the funding agency for quarterly and annual reporting, and coordinates with relevant team members (such as the Outreach Coordinator and Program Evaluator) in the effective and accurate tracking/documenting of said metrics.
  • Coordinates SOAR Program efforts with team members at the Mississippi Department of Mental Health, Mississippi State University, and Open Up Mississippi.
  • Assists in the financial documentation and reporting of grant activities as required by the funding agency.
  • Candidates with professional licensure in Social Work or Counseling may support the SOAR program with clinical activities as needed, including clinical supervision, risk consultation, and direct client services.
  • Assists the CBH Director in pursuing Medicaid paneling, creating and implementing procedures related to insurance billing, and when applicable participates in insurance billing and coding processes.
