JOB DESCRIPTION

LOCATION: Educational Support Services – 900 Watervliet-Shaker Road

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with at least a Bachelor’s degree and two (2) years of experience developing, implementing or supporting educational and/or enrichment programs focused on arts enrichment and/or STEM enrichment initiatives; OR,
  • Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate’s degree and four (4) years of experience developing, implementing or supporting educational and/or enrichment programs focused on arts enrichment and/or STEM enrichment initiatives; OR,
  • Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience of experience developing, implementing or supporting educational and/or enrichment programs focused on arts enrichment and/or STEM enrichment initiatives.
    The selected applicant will be subject to a fingerprint supported criminal history background check in accordance with SAVE Legislation effective July 1, 2001.
    Candidates will not have to take an exam for this title. This is a NY HELPS (Hiring Emergency Limited Placement Statewide) Program designated title. NY HELPS is a temporary program designed to help local government employers address current staffing issues. Traditionally, the titles filled under the NY HELPS Program required job candidates to compete in a competitive exam to be considered for employment. For the duration of the program, this title will be classified as non-competitive and categorized as a HELPS Program position. At the close of the program, this position will revert to competitive class status. Employees occupying positions filled through the HELPS Program will be granted competitive class status without the need to participate in a competitive exam.

Responsibilities
  • Establishes and facilitates all activities related to the various educational enrichment programs, including but not limited to Arts in Education.
  • Works with appropriate BOCES administrator on the planning, development and implementation of various educational enrichment activities, including but not limited to Odyssey of the Mind, Regional Art Show and Masterminds.
  • Develops and provides training for educational enrichment programs and services.
  • Acts as a BOCES liaison with school districts in all matters related to the educational enrichment programs.
  • Participates in discussions with school district administrators and staff to discuss, assess and plan for various educational program needs and to improve the breadth of services available to component school districts.
  • Communicates with districts via periodic newsletters to relay information on upcoming educational enrichment programs and services.
  • Communicates with districts to plan the delivery of various educational enrichment programs and services.
  • Assists in the growth of educational enrichment programs and services through communicating and promoting the various offerings to districts.
  • Attends and participates in professional conferences, leads arts advisory committee, meets with school representatives and participates in statewide organizations.
  • Prepares and submits written and statistical reports related to program activities for the BOCES administrators, as required.
  • Performs related duties, as necessary.
  • Good knowledge of emerging educational enrichment programs and services.
  • Good knowledge of standard office practices and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations governing New York State school districts relating to research in best practices in curriculum and enrichment programs.
  • Working knowledge of NYS Teaching Standards.
  • Ability to develop, design, coordinate and/or deliver programs and services.
  • Ability to form and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Ability to maintain records and prepare written and statistical reports clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to plan, supervise and schedule the work of others.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
