Description:

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University degree and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience in a related field such as higher education, student affairs, student leadership, event management, volunteer management or group facilitation
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related experience, preferably in student leadership development and program design, volunteer coordination and event management
  • Excellent customer service orientation and communication (oral and written) skills to interact effectively with students, faculty and administration
  • Demonstrated commitment to the principles of equity and diversity, and experience promoting a respectful work and learning environment for students, staff and faculty
  • Ability to manage group dynamics; conflict resolution and negotiating skills
  • Experience supervising and training others
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to exercise tact, good judgment and diplomacy
  • Must be well-organized and possess a high level of initiative
  • Proficiency in all MS Office applications; familiarity with student information systems an asset
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure of high volume and constantly changing priorities
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
  • Fluency in at least one additional language an asset
    Compensation: OPSEU Unit 1, Appendix A, Grade A4; $31.59 to $41.52 per hour
    Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, for a total of 35 hours per week. Flexibility in work hours; must be willing and able to work occasional evenings, as required. This is a temporary contract expected to continue until May 9, 2025
    Mode of Work: This position requires working on campus to deliver programming. Some hybrid flexibility is available, based on programming requirements and in collaboration with the supervisor.

Responsibilities:

  • In conjunction with the Manager, contribute to the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of annual priorities and objectives for student success programs with the goal of increasing students’ awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement in campus community
  • Collaborate with student service and administrative departments to assess student needs
  • Contribute to the development, coordination, and evaluation of programs that support a positive student co-curricular experience, enhance students’ leadership skills and develop students’ sense of community
  • Contribute to the coordination of the annual Orientation & Welcome/transition program that supports the successful transition and integration into university life for new students; pursue partnerships and revenue generating opportunities (e.g. sponsorship or advertising) that support the Orientation budget
  • Coordinate the peer mentor program, including outreach and supervision of approximately 100 student volunteers that mentor new undergraduate students in support of their successful transition into the University
  • Support the leadership skills development of mentors by providing training opportunities; engage mentors and mentees in ongoing evaluation of the program; coordinate outreach to student mentors for other paid or volunteer opportunities offered by other University departments
  • Supervise temporary Campus Life work study student monitors hired in support of department activities and student-led welcome/transition and social programming
  • Coordinate the student organization (student group) registration process and support student groups with activity planning, training, and promotion
  • Support University departments with information about student peer mentoring program, student organizations, related policies and procedures, and Orientation & Welcome/transition events
  • Coordinate an annual program to recognize and celebrate student leaders from the mentor program, student groups and other student leaders across the University
  • Coordinate and promote information about the University’s community discounts, recreation, fitness and wellbeing programs
  • Support the Manager, Student Communications & Campus Community in other related tasks that contribute to achieving department objectives
