YWCA Halifax is a progressive, multi-service, not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of women, girls, two-spirited and gender diverse people and their families at critical turning points in their lives. Our four program focus areas include: promoting the health, wellness, and leadership of women and girls; advancing women’s economic and housing security; delivering quality, accessible, early learning, and childcare; and working to end violence against women, girls and gender diverse individuals.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

The Program Coordinator will have:

  • Experience working in a supportive role
  • Experience working with diverse cultural, social, and economic backgrounds
  • An understanding of best practices for supporting elder women and gender diverse people living in poverty
  • Leadership experience on advocacy and priorities for elder women and gender diverse people living in poverty
  • A commitment to an intersectional understanding of the needs of elder women and gender diverse people living in poverty
  • CPR/First Aid, NVCI, and ASIST
  • Because this position requires occasionally accompanying/transporting residents to appointments, a valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required
  • A clear criminal background check with a vulnerable sector search is required upon hire.

Responsibilities
  • Advance the vision and mission of YWCA Halifax
  • Assisting residents with ADL (activities of daily living) when necessary
  • Provide companionship to residents
  • Social Inclusion and regular visits
  • Accompaniment to appointments as needed
  • Support with prescription refills and other material purchases and pick-ups
  • Planning and arranging birthday and holiday events and celebrations
  • With consent of the resident, updating families and/or loved ones through professional
  • communication
  • General case management
  • Assisting the Shannex team as required
  • Support the VHS Advisory Committee in it’s formation and implementation Ongoing research into best practices and models that support the work of VHS
  • Asset mapping the community for current ecosystems for elderly care, support, and services
  • Other duties as assigned by the Community Programs Manager.
