POSITION SUMMARY: Under the general supervision of the Program Supervisor Children & Youth, is responsible for the planning, implementation and administration of the Youth Move teen program. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops and directs a teen program which provides youth with opportunities for creative and distinct leisure activities. Assists in selection of Youth Move staff as required. Assumes responsibility for staff training; plans and conducts an orientation and training session for Youth Move Specialists. Directs and supervises Youth Move staff and volunteers in performance of their duties. Plans and conducts weekly head staff meetings. Acts as liaison between Youth Move staff and the general supervisor. Conducts written evaluations of training sessions, staff performance, and effectiveness. Works in co-operation and communication with the Police Department, Vandalism Committee of City Council, and other city agencies as required. Develops and implements promotional strategy for the program. Facilitates the planning, organizing, and implementation of Youth Move activities. Receives and answers public inquiries in an enthusiastic and positive manner. Supervises the acquisition and maintenance of necessary supplies and equipment. Conducts budget acquisition of necessary supplies and equipment and oversee their maintenance. Develops and implements safety procedures; ensures standards are met in all phases of the Youth Move operation. Attends all special events and regularly visits programs organized by the Youth Move staff. Develops and implements a Youth Move volunteer program. Co-ordinates and supports the involvement of the Special Services Integration -Coordinator in the Youth Move Program. Actively encourages the use of the Youth Move Program by teens having a disability. Acts as a resource person for other Department programs when necessary. Updates and develops the program manual. Resolves major teen problems in co-operation with the general supervisor. Meets with and reports to the general supervisor on a weekly basis. Prepares and submits a comprehensive year-end report/evaluation immediately upon completion of the program. Develops a program newsletter for distribution. Performs such other related duties as may be assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Experience: Secondary school diploma; Two years’ recent experience in community recreation programming and administration; Supervision of staff; Volunteer management; Proven leadership experience; Experience in developing training. Skills/Abilities: Verbal and written communication skills; Organization skills; Ability to work independently; Resourcefulness and initiative; Problem solving ability; Ability to work in a diverse and dynamic environment; Team player. Assets: Experience in developing structured and informal active living opportunities for youth (i.e. basketball, camping, roller blading, etc); Experience in developing leadership training programs.
