Description Job Summary: The Education and Public Outreach Committee (EPOC) was established by Steadman Philippon Research Institute to inspire the next generation of scientists through exposure to STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). The Director of EPOC will work with SPRI leadership and staff to support and lead educational courses and outreach events designed to reach students from 5th grade through high school. Major Job Responsibilities/Essential Functions: Maintain and improve current EPOC programming. This includes four core programs: Fifth Grade Tours, Middle School STEM Futures Day, Summer Scholars and Science Club, and five supplemental offerings: Keystone Science Club for Girls, Surgical Skills Labs, EPOC Alumni Projects, shadow opportunities and other small or pilot initiatives as they arise. Establish and maintain relationships to ensure EPOC’s success, including collaboration with SPRI leadership and staff, Eagle County School District, Vail Health and Eagle County STEM non-profit organizations. Increase internal and public awareness of EPOC programming and events. Collaborate and seek approval from SPRI Director of Marketing and Communications and EPOC Chair prior to publication of all external social media and scientific communications. Collaborate with the Development Department to support the creation of fundraising materials by providing data and strategic input. Oversee the EPOC Basalt Program. Manage and continue development of the EPOC Alumni Association. Collaborate with EPOC Science Manager on educational programming. Update the EPOC website as needed. Schedule, organize and lead regular coordination meetings with the EPOC Chair, as well as quarterly meetings with the EPOC Advisory Committee. Adhere to SPRI safety policies and procedures. Maintain personal commitment to the Steadman Philippon Research Institute mission and values. Follow policies as established in the Employee Handbook. Attend regular staff meetings and others as required. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements Bachelor’s in a scientific discipline or education or equivalent experience. Experience in teaching, science outreach or public speaking is required. Critical thinking skills.
