Summary: Holy Family Day Home, San Francisco’s oldest early childhood and family support center, seeks an experienced school Program Director to lead our education program. The ideal candidate will be an outstanding communicator who leads with empathy, organization, and cultural sensitivity, and who is familiar with Title V regulations. Spanish speaker strongly preferred.
Holy Family Day Home (HFDH) is a 501(c) (3) organization providing high quality childcare and family support services in San Francisco. Our mission is to provide affordable, high quality, early educational child care in a stable and nurturing environment, thereby providing the children of working families skills and hope for lifelong development. This mission continues a tradition established in 1900 by the Sisters of the Holy Family. While we honor our founders’ spirit of service and caring, HFDH no longer has any religious affiliation. Our beautiful childcare facility is located in the heart of San Francisco’s Mission District.
Scope of Work: The Program Director reports to the Executive Director and oversees all operations of the education program in order to maintain a comprehensive, high quality and developmentally appropriate early childhood education program consistent with all regulatory and funding requirements. The Program Director directly supervises the Assistant Program Director, the Family Support Services Coordinator, Behavioral Specialists, and Front Desk Team. Head Teachers are supervised by the Assistant Program Director.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Hold or be eligible for Site Supervisor Permit or higher.
  • BA with 24 ECE/CD units (inc. core); +6 units administration; +2 units adult supervision (Core courses = Child Growth & Development; Child/Family/Community and Programs/Curriculum) or Master’s Degree with Major in ECE.
  • Familiarity with Reggio Emilia teaching approach.

Work Experience

  • 3+ years of leadership experience (site supervisor or higher) at a large non-profit childcare program.
  • Familiarity with state and city contract types (e.g. CSPP, CCTR, ELFA).
  • Direct teaching experience in the classroom preferred.

Administration

  • Demonstrated ability to administer a program and budget of comparable scope and complexity.
  • Strong computer technology skills: Comfortable using software (MS Office) and other technologies/sites required for day-to-day administrative aspects of the role.

Leadership and Communication

  • Outstanding communication skills: Empathetic, collaborative, clear, and able to manage difficult conversations with tact and compassion.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the Vision, Values and Mission of Holy Family Day Home.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate, develop and inspire a capable, collaborative team.
  • Demonstrated good judgment and management of crisis situations.
  • Ability to speak, read and write the English Language.
  • Bilingual Spanish strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead a culturally and educationally diverse staff and program clientele.
  • Sensitivity to the individual and group needs of the children, parents and staff.
  • Knowledge of low-income and homeless issues for children and families preferred.

Other

  • Fingerprints clearance through Department of Justice for Child Abuse Index Check and Criminal Record Statement.
  • This role is required to maintain current Mandated Reporter certification and obtain health clearance to work in a school setting as required by licensing.

Manage the budget for the Education Program.

  • Clarify program goals and maintain a forward-looking, positive perspective about the program. Monitor curriculum development in response to changing trends in the field of ECE, changing concerns and needs of participating families, and changing program priorities.
  • Implement systems to ensure the provision of high-quality childcare standards consistent with licensing and organizational expectations.
  • In conjunction with the Assistant Program Director, ensure appropriate family engagement and communication throughout the program. This includes: participating in parent meetings as needed; ensuring staff are prepared and supported for family conversations; ensuring that the Family Handbook is updated and shared; other activities as needed.
  • In conjunction with the Support Services Coordinator, ensure that all Individualized Education Plans (IEP/IFSP) are initiated, followed up with and processes for ensuring compliance are in place.
  • Collaborate with Admissions team and Head Teachers to ensure successful enrollment for open spots.
  • Participates in contractual meetings, stays updated with program information, and ensures annual program department reports are completed on time
Responsibilities

Organizational Leadership

  • As a member of HFDH’s Leadership Team, work collaboratively to ensure a successful organization and a healthy workplace culture.

Staff Supervision

  • Directly supervise Assistant Program Director, Family Support Services Coordinator, Behavioral Specialists, and Front Desk Team.
  • Ensure that all roles in this department are filled, trained, and evaluated.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of team and agency meetings, staff in-service trainings, ECE and supervisory courses and workshops for professional growth.

Licensing and Compliance

  • Serve as key liaison with state licensing bodies.
  • Maintain a clear understanding of all current licensing regulations and requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with all state licensing and other requirements, including staff coverage, reporting, documentation, licensing audits, etc.
  • Ensure compliance in recordkeeping according to various programs, such as Title V, ECE, SF Department of Early Childhood, DRDP, Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP), Quality Rating and Improvement Systems (QRIS), Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS), Ages and Stages Questionnaire (ASQ), Ages and Stages Questionnaire Social Emotional (ASQ-SE).
  • Collaborate with Community Health and Safety Manager and Assistant Program Director to report all injuries and other health concerns to the administration, and administer pediatric first aid when necessary, and as mandated by state law, report any suspected child abuse.
