General Description: The Immigrant Services Program at Catholic Charities of Tompkins/Tioga provides legal advocacy, direct services, and referrals for refugees and immigrants who reside in Tompkins County. The primary responsibly of this position is to assist Spanish-speaking clients with accessing supportive services provided by the Immigrant Services Program. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Pre-screens clients to assess their needs and make appropriate referrals to in-house services or community partners. Provides direct services, case management, and referrals to immigrant clients who have language and/or cultural barriers so they can access community resources. Accompanies Spanish-speaking clients to appointments with DSS, Social Security Administration, the DMV, and medical appointments to bridge language barriers. Provides application assistance for clients who have language barriers or low literacy skills. Assists older clients with accessing local food pantries and farmer’s markets. Employees are required to follow appropriate supervisory direction and perform other related duties as required. Requirements Qualifications: Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Credentials: Possession of a valid NYS Driver’s license and a driver's record considered acceptable by agency and insurance carrier. Continuous use of a reliable, registered, and insured vehicle. Bilingual English/Spanish at a high proficiency level. Experience: Prior experience working with vulnerable individuals preferred. Additional Qualifications: Ability to maintain confidentiality client and organization records and files with confidential information Good interpersonal/verbal/writing skills; welcoming and professional manner Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills. Adheres to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations including, but not limited to, those governing confidentiality, privacy, program, billing, and documentation standards.
