The Department of Clinical Neurosciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Program Lead. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 1 year (based on length of grant funding), renewable based on availability of funding..
This position reports to the Principal Investigator of the Clinical Research Laboratory on Vascular Cognitive Impairment.
The Vascular Cognitive Impairment Program Lead will manage the research team as well as overseeing and coordinating the administration of >15 different observational studies, research contracts, and clinical trials involving human research subjects. This position will bring a high level of expertise in the areas of project management, clinical trials management and University policies and procedures. The lab is a team of doctors and researchers who use neuroimaging and other techniques to measure blood flow and brain damage in persons at risk for vascular cognitive impairment or stroke, and conduct clinical trials to prevent or treat dementia.

Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

• Project Management
• Projects undertaken by the research unit are managed effectively, on time, on budget and are aligned with the unit’s overall objectives
• Involved with long-range planning and dealing with complex issues using judgment and initiating resolutions
• The integrity of the project research data collected is monitored and maintained appropriately
• Creating project plans
• Coordinating and overseeing >15 projects per year
• Building and maintaining good working relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
• Ensure that appropriate institutional certifications and approvals are provided for all projects
• Develop, implement, coordinate and maintain various means of communications for all project stakeholders
• Demonstrated ability to lead and direct others
• Develop or initiate change to procedures and practices
• Establish quality performance standards
• Influence activities and outcomes of the department/area
• Facilitate collaborative project management delivery within cross-functional departments
• Budgets
• Budget information is gathered, analyzed and compiled accurately within timelines
• Apply sourcing expertise to deliver cost savings
• Budget allocations, revenues and expenditures are administered effectively for research unit
• Communication/Relationships
• Good relationships are developed and maintained with staff in the research unit and at other institutions that are collaborating with the unit
• Strong communication, leadership and facilitation skills ensuring unit staffs delivery of service
• The Principal Investigator is informed of new developments or emergencies in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:

• Minimum education: undergraduate degree in a field of study related to human biology or neurosciences or business
• Minimum 5 years experience in research and minimum of 2 years project management experience is required
• Additional certification or post- graduate education in the field of clinical trials management is an asset
• Knowledge and experience with Human Resources and Research Accounting policies and procedures at the University of Calgary is an asset
• Previous experience with PeopleSoft is preferred
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required
• Demonstrate strong problem solving skills and attention to detail is required
• Ability to work both independently and in a team environment
