The District of West Vancouver Community Services Department has openings for casual Program Leader – Community Dances. Under the supervision of the Youth Services Program Coordinator, the Program Leader will assist with the provision and supervision of community dances for preteens in grades 6 and 7 at various times over the school year. The Program Leader will be responsible for:

  • setting up for, and cleaning up after, the events
  • checking preteens in for the event and assisting them with putting on their wristbands for entry
  • providing supervision of all areas of the facility during the events (including on and off the dance floor, inside and outside of the facility, etc.)
  • monitoring youth volunteers including overseeing a youth volunteer-run concession program and handling low value cash transactions;
  • establishing and maintaining effective relationships with youth and acting as a positive role model;
  • enforcing dance rules and regulations;
  • monitoring and reporting out on facility and equipment safety, security and maintenance requirements;
  • working collaboratively with all Youth Services staff and attending staff meetings and in-services;
  • performing other related work as required.

The preferred candidates will have completion of Grade 12 plus related lived, professional and/or volunteer experience to demonstrate required skills, or an equivalent combination of training and afore-mentioned experience plus current Emergency First Aid (or better) and CPR ‘C’ & AED certifications.
The successful candidates will have: experience leading/supervising youth (11 - 18 years old) in various activities while providing a fun & safe environment; ability to demonstrate knowledge of the issues, needs and concerns of youth and their psychosocial development; ability to demonstrate ethics and professional boundaries in working with youth; ability to work independently and as part of a team in a culturally diverse community setting; excellent customer service, communication and interpersonal skills.

Hours of Work :
Hours and days of work may vary. Must be available for Friday afternoon and evening shifts beginning at 5 p.m. at the Gleneagles Community Centre.
Starting Rate of Pay:
$20 per hour plus 4% in lieu of benefits
