Engineering a world of possibilities
The Critical Materials Innovation Hub (CMI) is a research consortium of national laboratories, universities and companies, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy and led by Ames National Laboratory (https://www.ameslab.gov/cmi/). CMI seeks to accelerate scientific and technological innovation that leads to resilient and secure supply chains for rare earths and other materials critical to the success of energy technologies.
Responsibilities:
Lead and manage CMI activities in education and workforce development (EWD). The candidate will be the external face for these activities, working both independently and collaboratively on projects requiring initiative, creativity, strong organizational and communication skills, ability to meet project deadlines, and ability to supportively collaborate with CMI team members, student researchers and research and industry partners.

Specific responsibilities are:

  • Initiating and collaborating on education and workforce development programs.
  • Fostering professional industry, educational and nonprofit partnerships.
  • Developing and implementing professional short courses, both in person and online.
  • Developing and delivering high-quality STEM education materials and training to teachers, pre-college and undergraduate/graduate students.
  • Mentoring middle and high school teachers, graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Contributing to and creating materials for CMI’s EWD website.
  • Assisting in the planning and delivery of professional meetings at Mines, including delivery of an annual early career workforce event.
  • Managing students and part-time staff and supporting CMI interns.
  • Participating in planning meetings.
  • Communicating effectively with constituents (faculty, researchers, graduate and undergraduate students, K-12 teachers and administrators, industry partners and Department of Energy personnel).
  • Gathering and analyzing data for reporting and program improvement.
  • Initiating and contributing to annual, quarterly, and other reports.
  • Implementing educational assessments and program evaluations to enhance educational partnerships.

Minimum qualifications

  • Graduate degree in a STEM or education field.
  • Two years of professional experience in the field.
  • Knowledge of effective pedagogical practices.
  • Educational assessment and program evaluation experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A doctoral degree in a STEM or education field.
  • Professional experience in developing and managing multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail.
  • Successful deployment of effective pedagogical practices.
  • Evidence of leading a successful education and workforce development program.

Annual Rate
$75,000 - $85,000
Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
