Job Summary
The vision and mission of the Centre for Community Engagement and Social Change in the Faculty of Education at Queen’s University is to co-create a world—through community engaged research excellence—in which all community members can belong and flourish. We tackle the most pressing challenges in society and education (broadly conceived) by applying the principles and practices of participatory and transformative community engaged research through partnerships at local, national, and international levels.
Reporting to the Director, the Program Manager is responsible for advancing the mission of the CCESC. The candidate will provide program management related to community engaged research to advance the Center’s strategic priorities. The candidate is expected to have familiarity with current approaches in community engaged research and experience working in an exciting academic context. The CCESC prioritizes social justice and the knowledges and perspectives of multiply marginalized groups.
The Program Manager will be an experienced research professional with strong skills in community-engaged qualitative, quantitative, arts-based methods and/or visual methods (e.g., digital storytelling), academic and grant writing, and research coordination. Working closely with the CCESC team, the successful candidate will oversee research systems and protocols (e.g., data storage, MOUs), support data analysis (e.g., Covidence, NVivo, SPSS), and contribute to grant development and knowledge mobilization efforts, including newsletters and multimedia content. The Program Manager will also supervise research trainees and support accessible, inclusive practices across all Centre operations.
Job Description

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Master’s degree (minimum) in education or related field (preferably with a focus on equity, social justice, decolonizing, Indigenous or critical studies in fields such as sociology, women’s and gender studies, disability studies, cultural studies, or film/media)
• Demonstrated experience working in a community-engaged research setting
• Strong judgement and communication skills for navigating the complexities of community engagement
• Excellent interpersonal skills for building respectful, trusting, and credible relationships
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team
• Proficiency with digital tools and platforms for project coordination and knowledge mobilization, including Microsoft Excel, Canva, MailChimp, and social media platforms

SPECIAL SKILLS:

• Prior teaching experience in formal or informal settings (e.g., K–12, post-secondary, community, or adult education) is an asset
• Ability to translate complex research into accessible and engaging multimedia content for diverse audiences
• Familiarity with inclusive research and communication practices, including I-EDIAA, access practices, and principles of Universal Design

Knowledge Mobilization

• Manages the strategic promotion and dissemination of CCESC research, aligning activities with best practices in community-engaged and accessible knowledge mobilization
• Ensures coherence and accessibility across CCESC communications platforms, including the website, research stories, and publications
• Coordinates knowledge mobilization outputs such as infographics, research summaries, technical reports, and public-facing content in collaboration with staff, faculty, students, and community partner

Program Management

• Collaborates with CCESC leadership to implement and monitor strategic priorities, protocols, objectives, deliverables, and timelines
• Organizes meetings and communications with the Executive Committee, researchers, community partners, and the Community Advisory Board
• Coordinates internal and external communications, including with the Dean and Faculty Board, and supports knowledge dissemination through newsletters, reports, and other materials
• Liaises with finance and administrative units to arrange reimbursements, contracts, and related documentation
• Tracks CCESC projects, partnerships, and activities, including working with finance to create and monitor project codes and spending
• Manages data collection and reporting to support the ongoing implementation of the Centre’s evaluation plan
• Develops and manages evaluation rubrics to assess grant applications and communicates the results of calls to applicants (Development Grant pilot, Speaker’s Fund)
• Identifies and supports innovative and strategic initiatives that advance reciprocal, community-engaged research

Research

• Provides overall coordination and support for CCESC research projects, granting programs (including evaluation), initiatives, and casual employees
• Supports the recruitment and mentorship of research trainees in a variety of research approaches (community engaged, decolonial, quantitative, qualitative, arts-based), processes (ethics, data collection, analysis) and products (articles, policy briefs, knowledge syntheses, reports, infographics)

Community Engagement

• Promotes a culture of respect, reciprocity, inclusivity and access with partners and within the centre with a commitment to I-EDIAA, cultural safety and neuro-inclusivity
• Provides support for coordinating and facilitating events with community partners
• Facilitates research partnerships and helps build relationships with a broad range of researchers and partners locally, nationally, and internationally
