The Staff Wellness team within People & Culture is currently seeking a Full-time Regular Program Manager, WellBeing and WorkLife.
Staff Wellness promotes, supports and sustains the health and wellness of faculty and staff at the University of Calgary. We offer innovative wellness services that support the needs of faculty, staff and post doctoral scholars at all points on the health spectrum from healthy to ill/injured.
As part of preventative health services, WellBeing and WorkLife supports a UCalgary culture in which wellbeing is promoted, protected, practiced and sustained and where faculty, staff and post-doctoral scholars have access to culturally relevant wellbeing supports and the capacity and skills, reciprocally, to support the wellbeing of others.
The Program Manager, WellBeing and WorkLife, is a role accountable for providing advice for a full spectrum of wellness programs including, but not limited to; health promotion, faculty and unit-based wellness committees and Employee and Family Assistance. The Program Manager plays a key role in implementation of the Community Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy (CMHWS). This role may include broader institutional strategic and project planning, cross functional committee leadership, and participating in the governance process for the CMHWS. Along with partners across the university and HR, this position will also champion and support work around enhancing a collegial culture focused on well-being, respect and civility.
The Program Manager, WellBeing and WorkLife reports directly to the Director, Staff Wellness. This position provides expert counsel to the University community; works with third-party partners and supervises staff within the WellBeing and Worklife portfolio.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
Program Development
- Lead the WellBeing and Worklife team to meet the business needs of the University in developing various programs (related to health and wellness promotion, worklife initiatives, EFAP programs, and mental health initiatives), ensuring the success of the programs and providing guidance, and high-level leadership to the oversight of these programs.
- Lead the implementation of centralized wellbeing and Mental Health programs as they relate to employees at the University of Calgary’s Mental Health Strategy.
- Track and maintain awareness of decentralized wellbeing and mental health initiatives in various faculties and units at UCalgary.
- Lead the implementation of centralized wellbeing and Mental Health programs as they relate to employees within the CMHWS.
- Continuously monitor and maintain an environmental scan of best practice programs in workplace wellbeing.
- Partner to implement change across the University through education initiatives to the various faculties and departments regarding best practice in the areas of health promotion, mental health and wellbeing in the workplace, etc.
- Provide credible expert advice and consultation, education and support to the WellBeing and WorkLife portfolio as well as the extended Staff Wellness team.
- Collaborate with related University departments such as HR and Active Living to maximize partnership opportunities.
- Coordinate, in partnership, large cross-functional event series e.g. annual UFlourish event.
Leadership
- Strategize to advance wellbeing in the UCalgary community.
- Collaborate with and lead cross-functional initiatives and committees related to advancing wellbeing in the full campus community.
- Partner with other relevant units in initiatives associated with implementing the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace. Provide strategic leadership and guidance on implementation of this Standard.
- Supervise staff in multiple roles and phases of development including hiring, delegation of work, performance management, and disciplinary action up to and including termination.
- Specifically, the incumbent must provide quality leadership to support staff.
- Developing, maintaining and modeling positive working relationships with faculty and staff is imperative to ensure effective operation of the WellBeing and WorkLife portfolio.
- Ensure staff members are well trained, competent, supported in their work, and encouraged in their development. Work includes dealing with complaints, liaising with the Faculty or Department.
- Ensure the staff develops collegial, positive, high trust working relationships with each other and all work effectively as a team.
QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS:
- University degree in a health-related field is required as well as 5 -7 years wellness/health promotion experience.
- Ability to develop, coordinate and facilitate workshops on a variety of wellbeing subjects to a diverse group of participants.
- Working knowledge of the National Standard for Psychological Health and Safety in the Workplace.
- A working understanding of health promotion, mental health initiatives and Worklife program offerings.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and communication skills in a busy work environment is required.
- This position requires initiative, creativity, strong collaboration, and partnership building skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including displaying good judgment, tact and diplomacy in interactions with various internal and external stakeholders.
- A positive attitude and a demonstrated ability to be a collaborative team member is essential.
- The ability to collect and interpret data for the purpose of developing effective and meaningful programs, including strong analytical abilities and strategic thinking in contributing to the design and implementation of programmatic and operational changes.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate and implement new processes and programs.
- Ability to facilitate ongoing program evaluation.
- Must have the capability to successfully manage multiple competing priorities with minimal supervision and direction.
- Strong organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills in order to deal effectively with complex tasks and issues is required.
- Highly proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point).
- Experience with Human Resources Information Systems (i.e. Peoplesoft) an asset.
- Solid business writing skills.
