BCNO is a leading osteopathic educational institutions provide degree programmes in osteopathy. It combines two long established colleges - The British College of Naturopathy & Osteopathy based in London and The European School of Osteopathy based in Kent.
We are recruiting a Programme Lead to take responsibility for the day-to-day operation of our degree programmes. The details are:

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE

  • Registered osteopath or registered in another allied healthcare profession
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of working within higher education
  • Experience of course development in higher education
  • Experience of line management in higher education

Responsibilities

The aim of this role is to provide high quality leadership and management commensurate with the needs of the BCNO Group including:

  • Monitor, evaluate and review the delivery of academic services in respect of the new BSc (Hons) programme in Kent, the M.Ost programme in London and Kent (both in teach-out) and the BSc Modified Attendance programme in London (also in teach-out) and future RQ osteopathic programmes launched at either campus.
  • Support the Head of College by contributing to the strategic planning for both the short and long term, anticipating needs and responding to developments in the world of osteopathy and its teaching within a national and international context.
  • Build strong, effective and collaborative relationships with academic leads and faculty
  • Create a culture of constant improvement within a collaborative professional learning environment
  • Be an inspirational leader, committed to the highest achievement for all in every area of BCNO’s work

Key responsibilities

  • Assist the Head of College with the delivery of academic services including the development and delivery of the existing and future externally validated programmes.
  • Assist in the review and approve modifications to new or existing programmes and then submit the proposals to the partnership universities and GOsC
  • Ensure that the existing and any new programmes meet the requirements of the partnership universities, OfS & GOsC
  • Monitor, evaluate and promote good practice amongst the faculty and the institution inclusive of teaching, learning, assessment and resourcing using feedback from stakeholders
  • Represent the BCNO Group in external and internal committees
  • Define, implement, monitor and review new teaching and learning strategies including consideration of technology enhanced learning
  • Benchmark provision against good practice in the HE sector and throughout the osteopathic profession including fostering productive relationships to embed quality and enhancement at the heart of teaching and learning activities
  • Work alongside the Head of College and the Quality Team on all validation events for new and existing programmes of study
  • Develop a culture of quality compliance and enhancement in the teams responsible for the delivery and support of the educational programmes (including external examiners).
  • Be the principal point of contact for the programmes with the validating universities and regulator for matters relating to the programme and its delivery
  • Co-ordinate and attend key meetings with the validating universities inclusive of assessment boards
  • Co-ordinate the completion of module and external examiner reports by the Heads of Department with liaison as part of the annual course review process and help to develop action plans. Identifying areas for development and areas of good practice and communicate these to faculty
  • Collaborate with the Head of College to produce the annual programme monitoring and other relevant reports to the validating university and the GOsC ensuring that all actions are identified and completed in relation to the academic department.
  • Overseeing learning, teaching and assessment
  • Provide support and development, ensure stakeholder engagement and improve (current and potential) student communication. Ensuring students’ voice is effective at all levels.
  • Support the National Student Survey activity and University Student Survey activity in analysing information and leading the development of surveys, responses and action plans
  • Be the point of contact for students with academic issues relating to the course
  • Ensure that issues raised through the student voice mechanisms are dealt with by development, monitoring and completion of action plans
  • Serve on Student Fitness to Practise/Study panels and student or staff disciplinary panels as required
  • Support the Student feedback process for all modules
  • Contribute to student recruitment activities, including open days and interviewing applicants
  • Contribute to the APL application process
  • Contribute to the Year 1 student induction and careers’ events.
  • Manage and oversee the careers fair for Y3/Y4 students
  • Oversee and identify areas for faculty development and other training events
  • Oversee the induction of new faculty with the Heads of Department
  • Contribute to the Professional Development Review cycle
  • Manage the Faculty Professional Development Review process, including use of independent observers and undertaking teaching and learning observations
  • Line management responsibility of the Heads of Department
  • Relevant academic policy development and making
  • Academic faculty development to enhance their performance in teaching and learning by overseeing the Professional Development Review process for faculty to increase capacity and capability for outstanding teaching
  • Review relevant policies and report
