Are you interested in contributing to the chemical science community’s efforts to improve the world for everyone?
We are looking for a Programme Manager, Inclusion and Diversity to join the Global Inclusion team on a fixed term contract for 16.5 months.
You will be an in-house expert on key issues for the chemical sciences, familiar with relevant data, reports and strategic policy areas. You will develop and support the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC)’s diversity policies, procedures and activities to ensure that we deliver our strategy and will work closely with RSC members and other stakeholders who have expertise in this field.
You will lead on new and ongoing projects and work with other teams throughout the organisation, including membership, policy and evidence, outreach and industry to ensure that diversity is embedded in all our work. You will work with the Inclusion and Diversity team and with the Global Inclusion team to deliver the highest impact to our community.
The role will involve responsibility to oversee agreed budget for specific projects.
At the RSC we embrace flexibility and offer hybrid working, which means our teams come together when they need to collaborate. It is expected that you will attend the office one day per week, with the addition that you may need to attend more regularly for in-person events and meetings. This role will involve UK travel. KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

• Degree study or relevant qualifications or experience.
• Knowledge of the chemical science sector and wider STEMM community, including higher education, academia and industry.
• Experience of working in inclusion and diversity issues in science, and initiative to develop new ideas and approaches to address disability inclusion.
• Experience of working on complex projects involving multiple stakeholders and / or able to balance and prioritise across multiple projects, tasks and deadlines and organising meetings and events.
• Knowledge of the factors currently influencing the inclusion and diversity environment, as well as the needs and concerns of underrepresented people in the chemical sciences community.
• Ability to confidently handle communication with a sensitive nature, demonstrating empathy, tact, diplomacy and the ability to relate to people from all backgrounds.
• Network of scientific contacts with lived and/or research expertise in disability in chemistry or related sciences, or evidence of being able to develop such networks.

Desirable:

• Experience in conducting and analysing social science research advantageous.
• Experience working in a scientific organisation, company, university or in a government setting.
• Experience of running events, publishing reports and ability to facilitate workshops or discussion meetings.
