Established in 2010, the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) is a pan-university research institute that focuses on systems-level research for tropical megacities. It performs translational research that covers the energy value chain from generation to innovative end-use solutions, motivated by industrialisation and deployment. ERI@N has multiple Interdisciplinary Research Programmes which focus on translational Research, Development & Deployment which focus on specific area of the energy value chain, and a number of Living labs and Testbeds which facilitate large scale technology deployment enabling validation and demonstration of real-world applications.

We are looking for a Programme Manager (PM) to assist the ERI@N Management Team to drive a project portfolio on tidal resources. Singapore and the ASEAN region are exploring all forms of energy to achieve a diverse energy portfolio supporting decarbonisation goals. As such, tidal and other ocean energy sources are to be explored and ERI@N is looking to develop a portfolio of activities in this area.
The role of the Programme Manager is to initiate projects in this area and, if successful, build the portfolio towards a new Interdisciplinary Research Programme in tidal and other ocean energy resources.
Key Responsibilities:

The Programme Manager is to assist the ERI@N Management Team in Scientific, Technical and Project Execution matters relating to tidal resources. The Programme Manager will support and / or lead the following activities:

  • Participate in or lead research and development, demonstration, and deployment projects of innovative energy solutions, that entail research in energy systems and alternative energy sources.
  • Support the ERI@N Management Team in identifying strategic R&D focus and support technical roadmap development and technology assessments for various tidal energy and ocean resources. Recommend and support in development of strategic capabilities and core competence in targeted areas.
  • Support joint research and development agreements such as Joint Industry Program, Research Collaboration Agreements with Industry or University partners and related programs.
  • Manage projects in the group and be the Principal Investigator (PI) of selected research projects to ensure projects are executed to meet the scientific / technical targets.
  • Provide scientific / technical leadership and mentorship to members of the research group, including relationship management with stakeholders (government agencies, key research partners, NTU Management and industry partners).
  • Support the research team in take a lead in selected preparation of grant proposals, intellectual property filings, presentations in meetings, scientific conferences; publishing research papers in Journals / conference proceedings as defined in the project scope and agreements.

Scientific activities include:

  • Develop Tidal Resource Models
  • Design and implement statistical and machine learning tidal models to predict energy demand, supply, and market trends. Analyse Energy Data
  • Collect, clean, and interpret large datasets from various sources, and market reports. Monitor and Validate Model Performance
  • Continuously evaluate data accuracy and refine models to improve reliability and responsiveness. Collaborate with Stakeholders
  • Work closely with energy planners, engineers, and policy teams to align with operational and strategic goals. Present findings through reports, dashboards, and presentations to technical and non-technical audiences.

Required educational qualification, experience, skills and competencies

  • Master’s / PhD degree in Engineering or Sciences or a related field
  • At least 5 years’ experience with a strong research track record in fields of relevance to ERI@N (Artificial Intelligence as applied to power grids, renewables & integration, solar cells, hydrogen & fuel cells, energy storage, energy systems or other energy related applications) would be essential.
  • Familiarity with both academic and industrial research as well as the funding landscape enabling these research programs is preferred.
  • Good written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate with a wide range of individual and professional groups including senior level management in both industry as well as government agencies is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership in RD&D in energy research as P.I of successful completed multi-million projects/programs; strong publications, or intellectual property track record is preferred.
