DESCRIPTION

Michels Canada is looking for a Project Accountant to join our growing company. The successful candidate will play a key role in bridging the gap between project management and finance. This position is responsible for supporting billing and payment processes and maintaining effective communication between departments.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting.
  • Minimum 3 years’ accounting experience, specifically in the construction industry (mandatory). Candidates without construction industry experience will not be considered.
  • Strong understanding of project-based accounting, job cost tracking, and billing practices.

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Direct experience in project accounting within a construction environment.
  • Solid understanding of construction best practices, operations, documentation, and procedures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with a strong ability to ensure accuracy in financial records and project documentation.

EDUCATION

Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture for all employees, vendors, and customers and follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Prepare and finalize project billings, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Work with Project Managers and Project Controls to resolve contract-related issues.
  • Follow up on overdue billings, bringing them to the attention of Project Teams.
  • Review contracts and gain an understanding of the billing set up on the project.
  • Set up new projects in the accounting/project management system.
  • Work closely with Accounts Payable to ensure costs are entered into Viewpoint and approved.
  • Support the finance team with reporting, audits, and month-end close related items.
  • Generate reports and analyses as required and maintain subcontract files.
  • Prepare ad hoc financial reports for projects as required.
  • Manage “pay when paid” terms by working with the Accounts Payable team to make subcontractor payments upon receipt of payment.
  • Complete job cost adjustments as needed to correct coding issues.
