We are seeking a Project Accountant to join our growing real estate development team. This role is ideal for a hands-on accounting professional who enjoys managing both the day-to-day bookkeeping and the broader financial aspects of complex real estate investment and development projects. You will be responsible for all accounting activities related to the redevelopment and ongoing operations, including job costing, vendor management, monthly close, financial reporting, and financial planning & analysis (FP&A). Key Responsibilities Maintain all project accounting records for redevelopment and capital improvement projects. Set up and manage project budget and job cost tracking. Record and reconcile soft and hard costs for construction and tenant improvement projects. Process and code accounts payable invoices; review contractor draws requests and lien waivers. Prepare and maintain fixed asset schedules and depreciation records. Manage monthly and quarterly close processes, journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations. Prepare and analyze project-level financial reports and variance analyses. Support FP&A by providing budget-to-actual comparisons and ad hoc custom reports. Coordinate with asset management, development, and construction teams to ensure accounting accuracy. Work with external auditors, lenders, and tax preparers as needed. Maintain vendor files, contracts, and insurance documentation. Assist with implementation or integration of accounting systems for the project. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field. 5+ years of experience in real estate development, construction, or property accounting. Proficiency with QuickBooks, Sage, or Acumatica (experience with multiple systems a plus). Experience with job cost accounting, project schedules, and draw management. Hands-on bookkeeping ability — willing to manage day-to-day accounting tasks. Strong understanding of development costs, fixed assets, and depreciation. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines. Strong communication skills and ability to work across departments.
