Description Summary This position requires an independent thinker to lead a team with the project manager. You will be able to guide projects, using your experience and professional judgment to craft the final outcome. You will have the opportunity to develop a wide array of skills whether they be technical, design, or managerial. You will be able to influence exciting projects across a wide variety of types and clients. Duties and Responsibilities Primary Supervise, coordinate, plan and review the work of 4-8 staff members. This includes the mentoring of staff on project teams. Use the building code to develop architectural solutions. Provide code interpretations that are advantageous for the project and client. Support the project by interacting/ negotiating with jurisdictions to obtain building permits. Interact with the client to achieve project goals. Propose potential solutions that advance the project in unique ways. Understand and adhere to the project's contract requirements. Provide strong leadership for the project assigned. Demonstrate firm-wide leadership by helping other project architects and teams. Communicate project deadlines, phase completion, staffing needs and changes with project manager in a timely manner. This includes morale of the team, client perception, and the ability to forecast short term project needs. Perform QA/QC. Understand and reinforce project metrics such as utilization, technical standards adherence, efficiency improvement efforts and project profitability. Additional May perform some project management duties such as project work plan and schedule development for larger project phases, or entire small projects. Familiarity with trends in the A/E/C industry. Participate in the interview process for hiring new staff. Participate/ lead in the management review of subordinate staff. Provide constructive feedback to facilitate continuous improvement. Interest and/ or engagement in industry groups to develop specialized knowledge. Work with and support the marketing and business development group in the office. Model the firm’s values and core commitments, ensuring alignment with internal expectations for professionalism, collaboration, and ethical behavior. Respect and reinforce established firm policies and processes. Other duties as assigned. Requirements Education and Experience Requires a Bachelor or Master’s degree from an accredited program. Licensed Architect is required. Generally have 8+ years of experience. Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, MS Office Suite required. LEED AP Preferred. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Possesses intermediate to advanced knowledge of the OSSC/ ADAAG and possesses the ability to achieve the intent of the code through variances and appeals. Possesses knowledge of other codes such as OMSC, OFC, NFPA, OSHA, FHA, ANSI, City of Portland, etc. and the USGBC LEED rating system and score card. Knowledge of Sketchup, SpecLink, Smartsheet, and Deltek preferred. Advanced ability to communicate through verbal, written and graphic communication formats. Advanced ability to determine the right tool for the task. Advanced ability to prioritize and evaluate multiple important tasks. Advanced critical thinking to identify strengths, weaknesses or alternate solutions to a problem independently. Advanced professional judgment and decision-making processes to determine the most appropriate course of action. Established leadership skills that motivate and guide teams and projects to desired outcomes. Established skills necessary to resolve conflicts within project teams. Established ability to negotiate with and/ or advocate for team members, consultants, clients, jurisdictions for the benefit of SERA and the project.
