We are currently seeking a Project Assistant to provide research, retrieve copies of documents from government offices and courts and provide assistance to attorneys and paralegals as needed. This one-year role is designed for aspiring law students eager to gain real-world experience in a fast-paced legal setting. You will work alongside attorneys, contribute to a variety of legal projects, and gain practical insight into the day-to-day practice of law. This position provides a strong foundation for individuals preparing for the next step in their legal careers. The ideal candidate has a high level of initiative and motivation, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to prioritize job tasks and multi-task with minimal supervision. This position is based in our Louisville office. Key Responsibilities: * Document production review and indexing. * Maintain and organize files. * Organize documents and compile binders. * Maintain electronic databases. * Review and summarize deposition transcripts. * Review, index, and summarize FOIA productions from the IRS. * Assist with court filings. * Prepare PowerPoint presentations for speaking engagements. * Prepare Power of Attorney and Transcript Request Forms for IRS. * Prepare various IRS and other forms. * Assist with Retirement Plan Compliance Review. * Conduct electronic paperwork review. * Assist with trial preparation and trial exhibits. * Assist attorneys with updating online bios. * Assist with Request for Proposal and client pitch projects. * Create forms for internal use. * Obtain copies of new complaints regarding current/potential clients. * Obtain copies of signed orders not mailed (Motion Hour orders). * Search case files at Circuit Court for pleadings or orders missing from FBT files. * Search case files for possible pleadings filed by other parties. * Search county records for old wills and probate cases. * Obtain copies of deeds and probate files. * Obtain certified copies of wills. * Search records for estate trusts. * Handle the recording of deeds, releases, covenants, easements and mortgages with the County Clerk. Job Requirements: * Associate degree or 2+ years’ relevant experience in transferable skills. Experience in a law firm is strongly desired. * Advanced skills in Microsoft, Excel and database software. * Knowledge of court procedures and rules in Kentucky. * NetDocs (document management system) experience is preferred but not required. * Previous research experience would be considered a plus – background searches, lien searches, social media searches, etc. * Must have own reliable transportation as some travel (mostly local) will be required from time-to-time. * Ability to build rapport quickly with internal and external contacts. * This position will require frequent trips by foot between federal offices. * Innovative thinking – must be able to anticipate needs to successfully manage demands. * A flexible and team-oriented disposition. * A willingness to strive for the highest quality of client service possible.
