PROJECT / COMMISSIONING ENGINEER

Pertinent Details: Hiring Employer is looking for a Project Engineer to commission a “steel processing machine” in the plant, including installation, testing and setting up systems to ensure the machine is functioning according to specifications. Ability to write up operational procedures (SOP’s) and manuals. The role is vital in guaranteeing that all aspects of the machine / steel processing line will comply with both safety and functionality protocols before fully operational.
Contract Length: Six (6) months (+/-)
Location: Windsor, ON
Compensation: $40-50/hour (negotiable)
Job Description:

The Project /Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for the installation of a “steel processing machine” (skiving flat strip steel for products being manufactured), conducting tests to ensure operational efficiency and resolving any issues that arise during the setup processes. The role will be pivotal in validating the integrity and performance of critical systems before the machine is handed over to the production team. Key responsibilities include:

  • Reviewing and understating the project specifications and drawings
  • Collaborating with other Project Managers/Engineers to outline the scope and timelines of the project
  • Recording, analyzing and interpreting test data and identifying and documenting and deviations from the panned outcomes
  • Planning, managing and executing the commissioning of a steel processesing machine
  • Performing tests and inspections to ensure systems meet specifications
  • Diagnosing and troubleshooting machine and system malfunctions
  • Ensuring all quality, safety and operations procedures are followed during the commissioning phase
  • Provide training and support to maintenance and operations teams on new systems
  • Prepare the Standard Operating Procedures for the machine
  • Work closely with manufacturing teams to bring the machine to full production capacity, while ensuring optimal operation and production efficiencies
  • Create detailed documentation of commissioning processes, including reports on system performance and compliance.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelors degree in Engineering is required, specifically Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering. A Professional Engineering designation (P. Eng) is a major asset.
  • Experience with project management is essential, along with familiarity with project management tools (ie MS Project, MS Word/Excel, CAD software).
  • Must have previous “machine commissioning” experience, preferably with experience in steel processing and/or skiving.
  • Must have strong analytical capabilities, problem solving skills and effective communications skills.
