PROJECT CONTROLS ANALYST

Location: NB Power Head Office, 515 King Street, Fredericton, NB
Hours: 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday (onsite only)
Duration: 6 months (possible extension)
Start Date: ASAP
Preference: Local candidates (NB)

MANDATORY REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in Engineering or Business Administration (or equivalent education + experience).
  • 3+ years’ experience in project controls within large capital projects (preference: electrical utility sector).
  • Proficiency in SAP and MS Excel (advanced level).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of progressively responsible experience in project controls (utilities or capital projects).
  • Experience in project planning, scheduling, cost control, and risk management.
  • Background in estimating/cost engineering considered an asset.
  • Training or certification in project management (CAPM, PMP).
  • Certification in estimating/cost engineering (e.g., AACE CEP, TCIC Gold Seal, ICEAA CCEA®) an asset.
  • Proficiency with Primavera P6, MS Project, and SAP reporting tools.
  • Strong MS Office skills (Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Excel).
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is considered an asset.
Responsibilities

ROLE OVERVIEW

The Project Controls Analyst plays a critical role in providing cost reporting and project controls support to the project team. Working closely with the Project Accountant, Project Scheduler, Contract Administrator, and management team, this role develops, tracks, and updates cost KPIs and reports, ensuring alignment between project schedules, budgets, and risk plans.
The successful candidate will contribute to planning, budgeting, contracting, and project management activities to ensure projects remain on track, within budget, and compliant with industry practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Gather, analyze, and report actuals vs. planned values (costs and task progress).
  • Track and manage schedule and cost forecast revisions.
  • Establish and maintain schedules, budgets, and cost tracking systems.
  • Develop and maintain cost and schedule forecasts to manage projects through completion.
  • Monitor and report on critical path activities, non-critical tasks, and risks.
  • Ensure high-quality standards in project schedules, estimates, budgets, and reporting.
  • Support change management by assessing impacts, facilitating approvals, and updating project documentation.
  • Perform Earned Value Analysis (EVA) and provide variance reports.
  • Collaborate with auditors for independent or internal audits.
  • Prepare month-end accruals and financial reporting.
  • Support close-out activities, including financial closeout, lessons learned, and benefits realization reporting.
  • Coach and support co-workers and contractors in project controls best practices.
