POSITION OVERVIEW

The Project Coordinator at FMI plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of construction projects by assisting the Project Management team in planning, budgeting, execution, and documentation. Based in Nanaimo, BC, this role demands strong organizational skills, leadership, and clear communication.
The Project Coordinator will work under the direction of a Project Manager and may be assigned smaller projects or specific portions of larger projects to manage independently. Responsibilities span procurement, scheduling, cost control, documentation, subcontractor coordination, client communications, and change management—all with a focus on delivering projects safely, on time, on budget, and within scope.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in project management, operations, civil/electrical/mechanical engineering or equivalent field; or equivalent construction industry experience.
  • Experience: Minimum 3-5 years in the construction industry in a project support or coordination role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Project).
  • Familiarity with project management and cost control software (e.g., Vista, Procore)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Problem-solving mindset with a proactive approach.
  • Ability to collaborate across diverse teams and manage multiple priorities.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Willingness to travel to job sites as required.
