QUALIFICATIONS

University degree or diploma in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Experience coordinating strategic and concurrent projects is highly valued. Certification in Project Management and/or Business Analysis is considered an asset.

This position requires an extensive knowledge and understanding of:

  • Project management principles, methodologies, and tools.
  • Government strategic priorities, ministry operations, and decision-making frameworks.
  • Alberta’s social-based assistance legislation, programs, and services.
  • Business tools, including Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Teams, OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), MS Project, Planner, Visio, Power BI, and internet-based research.

Responsibilities

The Strategic Projects & Engagement Coordination (SPEC) units purpose is to strengthen the capacity within the branch of Common Service Delivery (CSD) to plan, develop and implement priority on-boarding and strategic initiatives. Part of the Employment & Financial Services (EFS) Portfolio, the SPEC unit brings strong project development and management to CSD. This strengthens the branch’s capacity to successfully manage and execute projects that drive efficiency, foster continuous improvement, and promote innovation in service delivery.
Reporting to the SPEC Supervisor, the Project Coordinator leads the design, management, and evaluation of major projects and cross-ministry initiatives.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and participate in complex projects and cross-ministry initiatives.
  • Analyze internal processes and operational policies
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and develop strategic recommendations
  • Prepare high-quality communications and presentations, including briefing materials.
  • Coordinate updates and progress tracking for strategic plans.
  • Represent the branch on interdepartmental teams, external committees, and working groups.
  • Conduct comprehensive research and stakeholder consultations.
  • Support the implementation of new technologies that enhance service delivery.
  • Coordinate onboarding of services transitioning to CSD.
  • Support reporting and training initiatives, developing reports and designing and facilitating training, when needed.
