POSITION SUMMARY
A Project Engineer acts as the engineering manager for design and procurement activities for a variety of projects throughout Southern Company. Projects may range from large capital to small maintenance (retrofits) for existing fossil and renewable electric generating facilities. This role is responsible for managing the engineering scope, engineering budgets, engineering schedules, and serves as the main point of contact for engineering deliverables to the plant or TSS project manager.
The Project Engineer works with Design and Technical Services disciplines (Civil, Environmental, Electrical, I&C, Mechanical) to ensure adequate and qualified resources are assigned to projects. They anticipate changes in project scope, budget, and schedule requirements, and develop/communicate mitigation plans for those changes. They also identify and communicate lessons learned and facilitate resolution of engineering and vendor related issues. The Project Engineer is required to maintain accurate project records in a variety of project management applications.
This position will support existing combined-cycle and simple-cycle plants and will be filled at a Level 6 (Project Engineer Sr.) or Level 7 (Project Engineer Principal), based on the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
TECHNICAL & LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE:
Formal or informal experience in a lead type role (i.e. directing activities of direct reports or project team members)
Experience working in (or in direct support of) power plant operations or electric utility generation systems
Budget/schedule management
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
