JOB SUMMARY

This position performs professional engineering work related to facilities and infrastructure projects, including providing project management and supervising staff.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Degree in civil, electrical or mechanical engineering.
  • Four to six years’ progressively responsible engineering experience in project management and project administration.
  • Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
  • Possession of a valid Saskatchewan Class 5 Driver’s Licence.
  • Current driver’s abstract from SGI demonstrating a safe driving record.
  • A vehicle suitable for use in the performance of duties is required.

KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES, AND SKILLS

  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and prepare a wide variety of reports, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to lead, manage and participate in all phases of engineering and construction projects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors and the public.
  • Ability to plan, direct and supervise the work of support staff.
  • Skill in the operation of a computer with word-processing and spreadsheet software.
    Weekly Hours: 36.67
    Salary Range: $86,211.84 to $101,175.60 CAD per annum (2023 rates)
Responsibilities
  • Plans, designs, schedules and administers facilities and infrastructure assets within the Utilities & Environment Department for construction and rehabilitation projects, including preparing detailed designs and selecting materials, preparing specifications and procurement documents, obtaining approvals from regulatory agencies, preparing cost estimates, reviewing procurement submissions and preparing recommendations, providing contract administration and ensuring compliance with civic and provincial safety regulations.
  • Coordinates projects by working with consultants and as a member of interdepartmental teams and prepares, monitors and updates project and construction schedules
  • Prepares comprehensive progress and financial status reports.
  • Plans, directs and administers the collection and analysis of data related to the condition and capacity of infrastructure systems.
  • Conducts the analysis of operating problems within the Utilities & Environment systems and develops and recommends solutions.
  • Prepares and updates technical specifications for the supply of materials and the methods of construction.
  • Investigates, evaluates and recommends acceptance of new or alternate technology.
  • Assists with the development and administration of bylaws and regulations governing the financing, construction and operation of systems.
  • Supervises and trains technical support staff.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
