PROJECT ENGINEER

Our client, an oil and gas producer based in Calgary, is looking for a Project Engineer in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting to the Project Manager in the Engineering and Construction Department, this role will provide effective Project Engineering support in the execution of various oilsands projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Project Manager and functional groups (Engineering, Project Controls, Supply Chain, Quality Assurance, Operations, Maintenance, HSE, etc.) to ensure the project scope is delivered on intent, on time and on budget
  • Coordinate support from EPC contractors and provide Owner oversight to ensure contractors comply with standards, procedures and scope requirements
  • Support pre-FID sustaining development projects - providing E&C representation and support
  • Participate in project peer and gate reviews
  • Lead the development of project strategies and plans
  • Lead the development of technical scope of work for engineering services and contracts
  • Collaborate with EPC contractors on design development
  • Contribute to and/or facilitate design reviews
  • Develop and maintain project documentation (e.g. Project Execution Plan, Decision Records, Scopes of Work, Schedules, Meeting Minutes, etc.)
  • Facilitate and support Owner assurance processes, such as MOC, Operational Readiness Review, PSSR, Lessons Learned
  • Review design standard variances, contribute to value engineering initiatives and support stakeholder communication and buy-in
  • Reviewing progress reports, and endorsing invoices for services as required
  • Develop and support development of presentations and materials (technical and non-technical) for project communication

Requirements:

  • Post-Secondary Engineering Degree along with 7 to 10 years of Project Management experience related to the oil and gas industry
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with APEGA
  • Certification in Project Management is an asset
  • Working knowledge of SAGD processing and fabrication
  • Self-motivated, proactive individual who is able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to overcome obstacles through building successful stakeholder relationships
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills. Demonstrates initiative and assertiveness to gather stakeholder support when required
  • Familiarity with directing Contractors/EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) firms
  • Experience in plant layout and how it relates to equipment design
  • Experience in pressure vessel and piping design is considered an asset
  • Experience sizing pressure relief valves, control valves and piping is considered an asset
  • Excellent presentation skills to subordinate and senior management audiences
  • Ability to clearly establish and articulate objectives and expectations
