Scope
We are currently recruiting for a Project Engineer to provide technical and administrative support to the Drainage Planning Section of the Utilities Division. If you are interested in a career that offers challenge and growth, we encourage you to keep reading.
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Drainage Manager, the successful candidate will manage external consultants and support internal staff working on drainage planning assignments, and will provide detailed drainage engineering reviews and support staff as part of land development applications. Core responsibilities include:
Manage and oversee external consultants and support internal staff teams working on drainage planning assignments for the City, such as drainage servicing strategies in support of community land use planning initiatives and other drainage planning studies as they arise.
Review and identify drainage requirements associated with land development applications, which includes:
Review geotechnical reports submitted in accordance with the City’s Hazard Lands Steep Slopes Development Permit guidelines and identify drainage concerns;
Conduct technical reviews for compliance with the City’s drainage design criteria and guiding hydrologic and hydraulic principles;
Identify drainage improvement works required to support land development applications;
Communicate drainage requirements to Land Development staff and development applicants; and
Support, coordinate, and review other staff reviews of development proposals and required works.
Review and interpret engineering reports, design drawings, SCADA data, test pit / borehole logs and survey data, and use this information to guide decision making.
Prepare reports, terms of references, memos and presentations for a wide variety of audiences on upland drainage issues and solutions.
Work independently and with support of others to achieve numerous objectives for the management and strategic planning of Surrey’s upland drainage system.
Contribute to annual work plans for the Drainage planning team.
Act as a liaison between Drainage staff and other City departments, including Planning & Development, Parks, Recreation & Culture, Finance, and Project Delivery staff on relevant tasks and initiatives; and
Support Drainage staff on various other projects and initiatives as needed.
Qualifications
Applicants under consideration will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in a related discipline of Engineering.
P.Eng. designation, or eligible for registration with Engineers and Geoscientists BC.
A minimum of 5 year’s experience in the field of civil engineering, preferably in a Municipal environment.
An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.
Demonstrated record of technical knowledge, skills and abilities in the relevant areas of engineering.
A valid and unrestricted drivers’ license.
