Description

PROJECT ENGINEER – NUCLEAR POWER

Location: Sizewell B Power Station, Suffolk (predominantly on-site with flexible home/office arrangements)
Salary: Up to £70,000 per annum + package

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer to join our Nuclear Power Engineering and Technical Services team, supporting the UK’s nuclear fleet. This pivotal role sits within our project and engineering portfolio and is based at Sizewell B Power Station. You will work alongside, and be mentored by, seasoned project engineering managers to develop and hone your project management and leadership skills on increasingly complex engineering initiatives.
As part of a large, site-based engineering team, you will report to the Project Manager, Programme Manager, and/or Construction Manager. While flexible working between home and office is possible, the role is predominantly site-based at Sizewell B.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Documentation: Produce, maintain, and update engineering documentation, including quality plans, technical specifications, and design records.
  • Technical Query Management: Handle technical queries in line with established processes and procedures, liaising with designers, station engineers, and contractors to resolve issues swiftly.
  • Contractor Selection & Review: Support the contractor pre-qualification and selection process; review and technically appraise contractor documents, drawings, and project options.
  • Feasibility & Site Surveys: Conduct feasibility studies, perform site surveys, and liaise with design teams and station engineering staff as required.
  • Engineering Change Management: Prepare Engineering Change Requests (ECRs) and manage all associated documentation updates and affected drawings.
  • Commissioning Support: Develop commissioning documentation and, where appropriate, lead test teams during system commissioning phases.
  • Project Support: Assist the Project Manager and Construction Manager in overseeing project execution—ensuring all work is performed safely, on time, and in compliance with regulatory standards.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Professional Accreditation: Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or HND in an engineering discipline.
  • Safety Training: Hold a valid Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) qualification.
  • Project Management: Formal project management qualification (e.g., APMP, Prince 2) and familiarity with modern project management methodologies preferred but not essential.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Demonstrable experience identifying, implementing, and adhering to applicable safety, environmental, and quality standards, company procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • CDM Experience: Knowledge of delivering construction projects under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations (CDM).
  • Electrical Power Systems: Ideally, experience managing and delivering electrical power systems design and installation projects—experience with National Grid interfaces or electrical supply/distribution systems is highly advantageous.
  • Communication & Organisation: Strong written and verbal communication skills, excellent organisational abilities, and experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Nuclear/Power Station Experience: Prior experience working at Power Stations or Nuclear Licensed Sites is preferred but not essential; all candidates must demonstrate a track record of working within highly regulated environments with stringent safety standards.

What We Offer

  • Competitive Salary & Package: Up to £70,000 per year, commensurate with experience, plus comprehensive benefits.
  • Career Development: Structured mentoring and training to expand your project engineering and leadership capabilities across a range of nuclear projects.
  • Professional Growth: Exposure to high-profile, safety-critical programmes within the UK nuclear sector—ideal for those aiming to advance in nuclear project engineering and management.
  • Supportive Environment: Work alongside seasoned engineering professionals and senior management in a site-focused, collaborative team.
  • Flexibility: Hybrid working options to support a healthy work–life balance—subject to project requirements.
