We are seeking a skilled Project Engineer to join our dynamic team and contribute to our continued success.
Job Summary
The Roof Engineer will play a crucial role in the planning, design, and technical setup of commercial roofing projects. This is a 95% computer-based position that involves building scopes of work for both repair and full roof replacement projects, producing detailed CAD drawings, designing job-specific safety systems, and designing and managing metal order packages. The role also supports quality control and coordination with field teams to ensure seamless execution of projects to KH’s high standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Scope Development – Review field inspection reports and build all scopes for both repair and full roof replacement work to be estimated.
  • CAD Design & Detailing – Produce detailed CAD drawings of roof systems, including assemblies, fastening patterns, and custom metal components.
  • Metal Ordering – Design and draft all custom metal packages, ensuring accurate specifications and orders.
  • Safety Design – Develop job-specific safety layouts including tie-off points, guardrails, and compliant access systems in alignment with OSHA standards.
  • Code Compliance – Ensure all roof details, assemblies, and fastening patterns meet local building codes and manufacturer requirements.
  • Submittal Packages – Prepare and deliver complete submittal packets with drawings, specs, and material data.
  • Warranty Applications – Apply for and manage warranties, ensuring accuracy and completeness of documentation.
  • Project Coordination – Work closely with estimators, project managers, and superintendents to address project-specific technical and safety details.
  • Field Support – Provide occasional site visits for quality control, technical issue resolution, and verification of design accuracy.
  • Continuous Improvement – Identify opportunities to improve engineering workflows and contribute to best practices.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field (preferred but not required with strong experience).
  • 3–5 years of experience in commercial roofing, sheet metal design, or construction engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, Revit, or similar).
  • Strong knowledge of roofing systems, materials, and installation methods.
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards and safety planning.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously.

Preferred:

  • Experience with low-slope roofing and architectural sheet metal systems.
  • Familiarity with warranty processes and manufacturer requirements.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • Roofing-related certifications a plus.
