The Project Engineer role is a genuine development opportunity — a chance to learn every dimension of heavy civil project delivery from a company that has been doing it at the highest level for decades. What You'll Own Support Project Managers across multiple active heavy civil projects — site development, underground utilities, earthwork, drainage, and roadway scopes Coordinate and track project submittals, shop drawings, RFIs, and document control throughout the project lifecycle Assist in preparing and maintaining project schedules, identifying conflicts and flagging updates as field conditions evolve Prepare and track NPDES permits, SWPPP documentation, and monthly environmental monitoring and inspection reports Review daily time, quantity, and production reports from HCSS Heavy Job for accuracy and completeness Assist with monthly pay application preparation, change order tracking, and cash flow projections Coordinate inspections, testing, survey staking, and utility locates in compliance with project notice requirements Provide technical engineering support to field superintendents and crew supervisors — helping translate plans and specs into executable field direction Issue correspondence to subcontractors and vendors when plan revisions or specification changes affect their scope Assist with project closeout documentation and coordinate final deliverables through completion B.S. in Civil Engineering or Construction Management, or equivalent field experience in a heavy civil environment 1–3 years of experience supporting heavy civil or site development construction projects preferred; strong new graduates with relevant internship or co-op experience will be considered Working knowledge of site development, earthwork, underground utility installation, and roadway infrastructure — either through coursework, internship, or early career experience Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project; familiarity with HCSS, AGTEK, Bluebeam, and Foundation a meaningful plus Strong written and verbal communication skills — you're organized, responsive, and clear Detail-oriented with a genuine interest in learning how heavy civil projects are planned, managed, and executed Ability to work in the field alongside superintendents and crews as needed — this is not a purely office-based role Competitive base compensation commensurate with experience Generous Paid Time Off (PTO) package plus paid company holidays Medical, dental, vision, and supplemental insurance with employer contributions 401(k) with employer match Long-term incentives Structured mentorship and a clear path for advancement — this company promotes from within and develops its own leaders
