Project Engineer (Field-Based) Project Type: Big Box Retail Location: On-site (Job Trailer) Position Summary The APM / Project Engineer is the on-site backbone of project execution, working directly out of the job trailer to support the Superintendent and Project Manager. This role is responsible for keeping the job moving—managing documentation, coordinating trades, tracking costs, and ensuring communication between the field and office stays tight. Key Responsibilities Field Coordination & Execution · Work daily with Superintendent to coordinate subcontractors and sequencing · Fill in for Superintendent when necessary. · Attend and run subcontractor coordination meetings as needed · Walk the jobsite daily to track progress, identify issues, and ensure work aligns with plans · Assist in enforcing site logistics, safety expectations, and cleanliness · Attend Weekly OAC calls and Weekly internal meetings Project Controls & Documentation · Manage RFIs, submittals, and shop drawings from the trailer closely with APM and SPM · Maintain current drawing sets and distribute updates to trades · Track and log changes, bulletins, and revisions Cost & Change Management · Assist PM with change order pricing, tracking, and execution · Collect and review subcontractor pricing for completeness and accuracy · Track potential exposures and flag issues early Scheduling Support · Work with Superintendent and PM to maintain and update project schedule · Identify long lead items and track procurement status · Push subcontractors on deadlines and sequencing · Assist with 3 week look ahead Closeout & Turnover · Start closeout early—track punch list items proactively · Compile O&M manuals, warranties, and as-builts · Drive timely project closeout from the field Requirements Physical Requirements · Ability to work full-time on an active construction site, primarily out of an on-site job trailer. · Ability to walk the jobsite on a daily basis to observe progress, identify issues, and verify construction is aligned with plans and schedules. · Ability to move throughout various areas of the project site, including uneven terrain, both indoors and outdoors, as required to support field operations. · Capacity to stand and walk for extended periods of time during site walks, inspections, and coordination with the Superintendent and subcontractors. · Ability to perform work that is not sedentary in nature, consistent with a field-embedded role that supports active construction operations. Work Environment · Work is performed primarily on-site at an active construction project, with regular exposure to typical jobsite conditions.
