The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Project Engineer – Facilities for a secondment role with one of our key clients in the natural gas sector. This position is ideal for an experienced engineer with a strong background in natural gas facilities and station projects, particularly from the owner’s side. You’ll play a critical role in supporting the full project lifecycle—from design and procurement through construction, commissioning, and start-up.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Oversight: Review and guide detailed mechanical designs for natural gas facilities, including compression stations, metering stations, and processing units.
  • Owner’s Representative: Act as a liaison between the client and contractors, ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines, and budgets.
  • Procurement Support: Assist in technical evaluations of vendor bids and material selections to ensure optimal project outcomes.
  • Construction Support: Provide field engineering support, manage scope changes, and ensure construction activities meet design intent and regulatory standards.
  • Quality & Compliance: Ensure adherence to CSA, ASME, API, and AER standards through regular reviews and inspections.
  • Commissioning & Start-Up: Participate in system commissioning, safety checks, and performance validation to ensure operational readiness.
  • Risk & Safety Management: Identify and mitigate risks related to design, construction, and operations, while ensuring environmental and safety compliance.
  • Integration & Upgrades: Evaluate and support facility expansions and upgrades, ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum 6 years in oil and gas facility engineering, with a strong preference for natural gas projects and owner-side experience.
  • Licensing: Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA or EGBC.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD, P&ID, MS Office, and scheduling tools like MS Project or Primavera.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communicator, collaborative team player, and effective problem-solver.
