Description

Newton Design is expanding! We are growing our team to support recent contract awards and major upcoming projects, and we’re seeking a skilled and experienced Mechanical Project Engineer to join our engineering team.
Newton Design specializes in simulation and training equipment for the aviation industry, law enforcement agencies, and the military. Our core focus is the design and fabrication of full-scale replica aircraft cabins and fuselages—delivering high-fidelity systems using both mechanical assemblies and actual aircraft equipment.
The Mechanical Project Engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of the simulator: from requirements analysis and design to production, testing, and delivery. This role combines hands-on technical work with leadership responsibilities, ensuring successful execution of engineering efforts across all project phases.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Design mechanical systems, including structural assemblies, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and actuation mechanisms for replica aircraft trainers.
  • Select materials, ensure structural integrity under load, and support fabrication and assembly efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with the Project Manager to manage schedules, budgets, and task planning.
  • Lead cross-functional engineering teams, assigning tasks and tracking progress to ensure project milestones are met.
  • Act as a key liaison between engineering, program management, manufacturing, and customers.
  • Conduct design reviews and provide technical oversight to ensure design quality and compliance.
  • Review and approve documentation, test plans, and deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Prepare and present engineering documentation, including drawings, schematics, parts lists, and manuals.
  • Support troubleshooting and validation efforts during prototype and production phases.
  • Occasionally travel to customer sites for final system delivery, integration, and testing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in a STEM field required; Bachelor’s in Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • 3–5 years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience with SolidWorks required.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical hardware, hydraulic circuits, and system troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office suite and engineering documentation practices.
  • Ability to read engineering prints and interpret technical requirements.
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills; ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Must be able to occasionally work overtime, weekends, or night shifts, as needed.
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs regularly, stand for long periods, and move freely throughout the facility.
  • Reasonable accommodations will be made for individuals with disabilities.

Benefits:

  • 401(k)
  • Health, Dental, and Vision Insurance
  • Life Insurance
