Project Engineer
Job Description 
We are looking for a highly skilled and organized Project Engineer to plan, design and implement IT infrastructure projects for our client out of our Burnaby, BC office. In this role, you will lead technical deployments including server upgrades, network installations, cloud migrations, and cybersecurity enhancements. You’ll work closely with internal teams and client stakeholders to ensure smooth delivery, staying within scope, budget, and timelines.
This is a hands-on technical role requiring in-depth knowledge of modern IT environments, excellent communication, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced MSP environment.  NextGen Automation includes a team of highly trained technical sales force as well as customer service team with strong product knowledge, technical aptitude, and a commitment to first-class customer service. You would be expected to work alongside a highly trained team to maintain a high level of customer service to our new and existing customer base. 

Daily responsibilities will include the following: 

  • Plan, scope, and execute IT infrastructure projects for multiple clients, including:
  • Microsoft 365 and Azure migrations
  • Server and storage implementations (on-prem and cloud)
  • Network and firewall deployments
  • VoIP and telephony solutions
  • Security upgrades and compliance initiatives
  • Perform site assessments and client discovery to gather technical requirements.
  • Design and document technical solutions aligned with best practices and client needs.
  • Configure, install, and migrate systems, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum client satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers to maintain timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
  • Provide technical leadership to Help Desk and Field teams during project rollout and handoff.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all configurations, procedures, and deliverables.
  • Serve as the technical point of contact for clients during project lifecycle.
  • Ensure successful project closeout, client training, and handover to support teams.
  • Assist with the development of project templates, standards, and internal documentation.

Qualifications and Skills Required: 

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in IT project delivery or infrastructure engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge of:
  • Microsoft 365, Azure AD, Exchange Online
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
  • Firewalls, routers, switches (Fortinet, Cisco, Ubiquiti, etc.)
  • Hyper-V or VMware virtualization
  • Backup and disaster recovery solutions
  • Experience working with Professional Services Automation (PSA) and Remote Monitoring & Management (RMM) tools.
  • Ability to write technical documentation and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Proven track record managing multiple projects concurrently in an MSP or consulting environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.

Preferred Certifications:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or M365 Enterprise Administrator
  • CompTIA Project+ or PMP (asset)
  • Network+, Security+, or other relevant certifications

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $75,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
