POSITION SUMMARY

Spicer Group is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Structural Services Group as a Project Engineer in our Saginaw, St. Johns or Bingham Farms office. Our rapidly growing Structural Service Group is a team of highly educated engineers and designers who work for a variety of different clients in the transportation, industrial, commercial, and municipal industries. Typical projects will include providing structural design solutions for Bridge Rehabilitations & Replacements, Foundations and Structural Support for Industrial and Manufacturing Processes. Structural design will be completed using standard analytical methods using Finite Element Analysis and OpenBridge Designer. This position will assist with the preparation of designs, specifications, calculations, cost estimates, and more on projects across the region and country. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for an experienced and organized individual who is ready to be part of a team that works with multiple professional disciplines on a variety of exciting projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural focus.
  • Professional Engineer licensed in Michigan, or ability to obtain within 1 year.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with bridge engineering and or/ general structural engineering with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively with project team members and clients.
  • Work experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.
  • Familiarity with MDOT Bridge Design procedures is a plus.
  • Experience with structural engineering analysis software such as RISA 3D, STAAD Pro, or MathCAD.

Responsibilities:

  • Completing lead activities for the preparation of proposals for projects and assisting project managers with budgeting, scheduling, directing subordinates, prioritizing multiple projects and deadlines, and communicating with superiors and clients on small to medium size projects
  • Leading a team of design engineers and coordinating project tasks for a timely deliverables.
  • Project Engineer responsible for development of design of plans, specifications, and cost estimates for structural and/or bridge projects.
  • Completing bridge field condition assessments on local and statewide bridge projects and developing bridge repair recommendations, scoping reports, life cycle analyses and creating cost estimates for repairs
  • Quality control of all work products prepared under his/her direction.
  • Coordinates and communicates with team members, clients, contractors, and outside consultants.
  • Makes recommendations for additions, deletions, or substitutions when modifications are necessary.
  • Makes periodic visits to construction sites as appropriate to review conditions.
  • Attendance at project meetings, public hearings, and makes presentations at interviews for new projects.
  • Maintains a current knowledge base for the work being performed including reading professional publications and occasionally attending professional meetings and seminars.
  • Exercises judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria
  • Plans, schedules, conducts, or coordinates engineering work involving conventional engineering practices and may include a variety of complex features such as conflicting design requirements.
  • Supervision of less experienced engineers, technical, or administrative support personnel
  • Is technically involved in the resolution of design problems that may include performing field investigations or inspections, detailed design work and detailed checking of design computations performed by others, or general coordination of specific design aspects into a project.
  • Assists with business development and marketing responsibilities such as proposal preparation, client contacts and development, presentations, and attends client related functions.
  • Preparation of structural report
