Description Position Summary: The Project Engineer is responsible for identifying, creating, executing, and reporting project results to qualify new and modified products. The Project Engineer develops and applies advanced engineering concepts, theories, and research techniques in the solution of complex mechanical design, hydraulics, and electro-mechanical technical problems. As the technical lead on various development projects, the Project Engineer works with Manufacturing, Operations, Sales and other applicable departments to meet project objectives, including process improvements. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The Project Engineer is accountable for the following functions and responsibilities: · Have lead responsibility for project and program level developments. · Coordinate/perform all aspects of mechanical design, from system concepts to detailed designs and prototype testing to documentation and manufacturing transfer, as assigned. · Perform engineering calculations and design analysis as required to ensure mechanical integrity of products. · Lead product development activities ranging from conceptual development, prototyping, and design validation to manufacturing and existing product support, individually and collaboratively. · Lead research and development of new concepts and products to address new markets and new technologies. · Generate product specification documentation and assembly/operation instructions using the industry’s best practices. · Perform root cause analysis of issues detected in development and existing products. · Desirable to be able to run non-linear FEA and CFD analysis (Abaqus), and/or interpret results. · Lead FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) sessions for new products/systems, as required. · Assist/work with various support groups (i.e., drafting, testing, manufacturing, sales, etc.) to complete projects, as required. · Maintain a safe and clean work environment by following standards and procedures and comply with legal regulations. · Perform other functions and responsibilities as assigned. Requirements QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: The Project Engineer must at a minimum possess the following: · Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required. · Professional Engineer certification desired, but not required. · 10 to 18 years of experience in designing and testing downhole tools. Completion tool experience desired. · Ten or more years of experience are required in the following areas: o Mechanical systems analysis. o Designing, conducting, and reporting independent research/development. o Using SolidWorks or other 3D design software. · Ability to read, write, and speak the English language fluently is preferred. · Abaqus FEA/CFD experience desired. · Ability to perform intermediate-to-advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel. · Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and timelines in a fast-paced environment. · Ability to liaise professionally with team members and other departments. · Ability to perform assigned tasks with minimal supervision. · Strong verbal and written communication skills. · Ability to travel in Globally on an as needed basis. · Cognitive skills to include the ability to learn, to process thoughts and apply knowledge, to analyze and reason, and to evaluate and make appropriate decisions to achieve business goals and solve problems. Physical Requirements: The Project Engineer must be able to: · Operate basic office equipment and computer system. · Ability to lift 50lbs regularly and with assistance, up to 75lbs on occasion. · Walk/travel to production areas while wearing appropriate Personal Protection Equipment when required (safety glasses or side shields, steel-toe footwear, etc.). · Sit for long periods of time; up to 8-10 hours a day.
Responsibilities
The Project Engineer leads project and program developments, coordinating all aspects of mechanical design from concept through testing and manufacturing transfer. They are also responsible for leading R&D for new concepts and products to address new markets and technologies.
