ABOUT THE ROLE
TransAlta is seeking a dedicated and driven Project Engineer to join our Projects and Construction team on a full-time, permanent basis. This exciting opportunity supports ongoing and upcoming renewable energy and carbon reduction initiatives across North America.
Reporting to an experienced Project Manager, this role offers valuable guidance and mentorship to foster your career growth and professional development. It’s an ideal position for an engineer or technologist with a background in renewable energy or gas project development, design engineering, and construction.
As the Project Engineer, you will assist the Project Manager to ensure all aspects of project planning and execution meet the established requirements with respect to cost, schedule, scope, quality, health, safety and environment. Successful project execution requires planning for the end-state and involves sound front-end planning prior to the commencement of detailed design, procurement, and construction. You will also assist the Project Development group to implement a construction driven approach from project inception. This planning begins early in a project’s lifecycle, typically soon after a project has progressed passed the initial project development phase and the preliminary business case for the project and a preliminary project development budget and schedule have been approved. Subsequent implementation of the plan through execution is key, including vigilant change management. Your responsibilities will conclude once the project has been successfully turned over to operations, entered commercial operation, and lessons learned have been documented and shared.
This is a full-time salaried, safety sensitive position based out of our new head office in Downtown Calgary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Support TransAlta’s Total Safety Program for project areas of responsibility and drive for highest levels of health and safety performance on projects
Aid in the development of Project Execution Plans including coordination of information from cross-functional groups such as supply chain management, environment and regulatory, health and safety, operation, business integration, etc.
